No Turning Back

Mark pulled back slightly from his children, looking into Lily's gentle brown eyes. He wiped away another tear from her nose and gave her a small, comforting smile. The loud sound of Victoria weeping on the marble floor didn't move his heart even a fraction of an inch. The line had been crossed, and there was no coming back from the evil act she had committed inside his home.

Mark: Daddy is here now. Nobody will ever hurt you again, I promise.

Lily: Is Mommy going away, Dad?

Mark: Yes, sweetie. She is leaving right now.

Mark stood up and turned back toward Victoria, who was slowly sitting up on the wet floor, her expensive green dress soaked and dirty. She looked pathetically small now, all her arrogance stripped away by the reality of her actions. Mark pulled his smartphone from his inner pocket, dialed his personal family lawyer, and put the call on speaker so Victoria could hear every single word clearly.

Lawyer: Mark? Is everything alright?

Mark: Arthur, I need you to file emergency divorce papers immediately. Cancel all credit cards attached to my estate right now. Call the police and report child neglect and abuse at my address.

Victoria: Mark, no! Please! Think about my reputation! Think about our prenup!

Mark: Get your bags and GET OUT! From this moment on, you are forbidden from ever setting foot in my house again!

Victoria began to sob loudly, crawling on her hands and knees just like Lily had been doing minutes before. But unlike his innocent daughter, Victoria was crawling out of pure selfishness and shame. She scrambled up the stairs to grab her purse, realizing that her life of luxury, zero effort, and unearned wealth was over forever. Mark didn't even watch her run; he turned his full attention back to the two precious souls who truly needed him.
