Mark reached his wife within seconds and knelt beside her on the cold tile floor.
He checked her hands and shoulders while whispering soft words of comfort to her.
Clara was sobbing softly, holding her stomach in overwhelming fear for her child.
Clara: Mark, please help me!
Mark looked up at Evelyn, who was standing right over them with a pale face.
To Mark, it appeared as though Evelyn was hovering aggressively over his hurt wife.
Years of distrust between Mark and his stepmother exploded into furious anger instantly.
He stood up quickly and stepped directly into Evelyn's personal space.
Mark: How dare you touch her!
Evelyn stumbled back a step, raising her hands to protect herself from his anger.
Evelyn: Mark, you misunderstand!
Mark: Get back from her right now!
Mark pointed his finger directly toward the open front door with intense rage.
Mark: Call the police!
The household maid ran into the hallway after hearing the commotion from the kitchen.
She immediately pulled out her phone to dial emergency services for help.
Clara cried out again from the floor, drawing Mark back down to her side.
Clara: Mark, the baby, please call an ambulance!
Mark held Clara's hand tightly while staring venomously at his stepmother.
Evelyn looked completely shaken, her hands trembling as she stepped back against the wall.
She tried to speak, but the fury in Mark's eyes silenced her immediately.
The sound of approaching sirens echoed in the distance outside the large front windows.
Mark brushed the hair away from Clara's tear-streaked face to calm her down.
Mark: Hold on, honey, help is coming right now.
Evelyn stood near the large framed artwork, looking trapped and deeply confused.
She knew that if Mark believed she pushed Clara, her life was completely ruined.
The paramedics arrived within minutes, pushing through the grand double doors with gear.
They immediately began assessing Clara's condition right there on the marble floor.
Mark stayed by her side, refusing to move even as the medics worked.
Two police officers walked into the foyer right behind the emergency medical team.
Mark stood up and immediately pointed his finger directly at his stepmother.
Mark: She tried to hurt my pregnant wife to save her inheritance money!
Evelyn shook her head frantically as the police officers turned to look at her.
Evelyn: That is not true, I tried to catch her!
The officers moved toward Evelyn to step between her and the family.
They asked everyone to remain calm while the paramedics lifted Clara onto a gurney.
Clara looked at Mark with wide, terrified eyes as they prepared to move her.
Clara: Please don't leave me, Mark!
Mark followed the gurney out to the waiting ambulance parked in the driveway.
He turned back one last time to glare at Evelyn with absolute hatred.
Mark: You will pay for this if anything happens to my child!
The ambulance doors slammed shut, leaving Evelyn alone with the police officers.
