Before Victoria could utter another word of protest or legal threat, Mark stepped up aggressively into her personal space, his eyes burning with righteous anger. The air in the room seemed to freeze as he raised his right hand and struck her across the face with a loud, sharp slap that echoed through the entire lower floor of the house. Victoria's head snapped to the side, her golden earring catching the light as she gasped in utter shock and staggered back two full paces, clutching her reddened cheek with a trembling hand.
Mark: GET OUT OF HERE!
Victoria: You... you hit me! You can't do this to me!
Mark: GET OUT OF THIS HOUSE BEFORE I DRAG YOU OUT MYSELF AND HAND YOU TO THE COPS IN HANDCUFFS!
Victoria: You will regret this, Mark! Both of you will regret this day!
Mark: LEAVE NOW!
Mark pointed his long finger directly toward the open front door, his voice booming with absolute authority that left no room for argument or delay. Victoria looked from Mark's furious face down to Clara, who was still weeping on the floor surrounded by red-stained glass. Realizing that her reign of terror was completely over and her reputation was about to be ruined forever, Victoria turned around, grabbed her designer purse from the bench, and ran out the front door into the bright daylight, her heels clicking rapidly against the driveway pavement.
The moment the door slammed shut behind her, Mark dropped to his knees again beside Clara, immediately pulling out his phone to dial nine-one-one. His voice softened instantly as he spoke to the emergency operator, giving their location and requesting an immediate ambulance with specialized medical staff for a pregnant trauma victim. He pressed his clean suit jacket against Clara's deepest cut to stop the slow bleeding, kissing her forehead over and over while tears finally broke from his own eyes.
Mark: Help is on the way, sweetie. You are safe now. I am right here with you.
Clara: Is the baby going to be okay, Mark? Please tell me our baby is okay...
Mark: You are both strong. I promise you, I will take care of everything, and she will never come near us again.
Within seven minutes, the red and blue lights of the emergency response vehicles reflected off the front windows of the house, their sirens cutting through the quiet suburban neighborhood. Paramedics rushed through the door with a stretcher, carefully stabilizing Clara's neck and back before lifting her safely off the glass-strewn floor. Two police officers followed right behind them, notebook in hand, as Mark presented his phone with the crystal-clear security video cueing up the exact moment of the assault.
