The entire ballroom stood in complete silence as Arthur held the legal custody document high.
Victoria clutched her pearl necklace tightly while taking frantic gasps of cold air.
Victoria: You have no legal power to remove a child from her father's care!
Arthur: The family court judge felt very differently after reviewing the private home footage.
Julian's eyes widened in sudden panic as he looked around the grand ballroom ceiling.
Small hidden security cameras blinked faintly near the high corners of the room.
Julian: You installed private monitoring cameras inside our private residential quarters?
Arthur: I installed them the day Lily told me she was going to bed hungry.
Lily squeezed her grandfather's hand tighter while looking up at his old warm face.
Lily: She made me stay in the dark closet when guests came over last week.
A collective gasp of shock echoed through the crowd of high society visitors.
Several mothers in the audience covered their mouths with their hands in absolute horror.
Victoria: She is lying to you just to get attention because she is spoiled!
Arthur: The digital video recordings do not lie Victoria and neither does a child.
Arthur reached into his suit pocket and pulled out a small black USB drive.
He held it up in front of Julian's terrified face with unwavering determination.
Arthur: The police department already has a full copy of every single recording file.
Julian fell back against the velvet drapery as his knees grew weak with fear.
Julian: Father please do not ruin my career and my standing in this city!
Arthur: You ruined your own standing when you chose money over your own family blood.
Victoria turned around and tried to hurry toward the side exit leading to the gardens.
Two heavy wooden doors opened suddenly as uniformed police officers walked into the ballroom.
The bright light reflected off the metal badges pinned to their navy blue uniforms.
Officer: Victoria Vance and Julian Vance please stay exactly where you are right now.
Victoria stopped in her tracks while her body trembled with intense overwhelming fear.
Victoria: What is the meaning of this intrusion during our private family celebration event?
Officer: We are executing a warrant for financial fraud and child endangerment today.
Julian covered his face with his hands as heavy tears started falling down his cheeks.
The guests moved back slowly to clear a path for the approaching police officers.
Arthur: Take them both away so this young girl can finally live in real peace.
Lily hid her face against her grandfather's side as the officers stepped forward smoothly.
The heavy burden of years of secret cruelty was finally lifting off the family.
