Three days after Victoria's arrest, the quiet dignity of the Sterling mansion returned, though the heavy shadow of her greed still lingered in the air.
Julian sat in his late father's oak-paneled study, adjusting his tie while an elderly gentleman in a pinstriped suit spread several legal files across the mahogany desk.
Mr. Harrison: Julian, I must admit, in my forty years of practicing estate law, I have rarely seen a situation as dangerous as this one.
Julian: Did you find the missing trust documents, Mr. Harrison?
Mr. Harrison: We found much more than that. When the police searched Victoria's personal safe in the master bedroom, they discovered two forged wills and a life insurance application under your name.
Julian: Under my name? What are you talking about?
Mr. Harrison: She had taken out a two-million-dollar policy on your life six months ago, listing herself as the primary beneficiary in the event of an accidental injury or death.
Julian: She was planning to get rid of both me and Lily...
Mr. Harrison: Precisely. She wanted the entire family fortune, the estate, and the corporate holdings completely unencumbered by biological heirs.
Julian: That woman is a psychopath.
Mr. Harrison: Fortunately, her actions on the balcony were fully recorded on your ceiling camera. The district attorney has already filed formal charges of attempted murder, child endangerment, and attempted grand larceny.
The study door clicked open gently, and a young woman wearing a plain navy sweater stepped inside, carrying little Lily in her arms.
Clara: Excuse me, Mr. Sterling. I brought Lily down from her afternoon nap. She was asking for her daddy.
Julian: Thank you, Clara. Bring her over here.
Julian: Hey there, my beautiful girl! Did you sleep well?
The baby giggled happily, reaching her tiny hands out toward Julian's face as he took her into his arms, setting her gently on his lap.
Mr. Harrison: Is this the brave young lady who survived that terrible ordeal?
Julian: She's the strongest girl I know, Mr. Harrison.
Mr. Harrison: Well, little Lily, you'll be pleased to know that your future is completely secure. Your grandfather's original trust fund has been fully restored by the court, and Victoria's name has been legally removed from all family accounts.
Clara: That is such wonderful news, Mr. Sterling! We were all so worried about what her lawyers might try to pull in court.
Julian: Her lawyers can't fight video evidence, Clara. She's going to prison for a very long time.
Mr. Harrison: Indeed. The preliminary hearing is set for next Tuesday, but her defense team is already pushing for a plea bargain to avoid a public trial.
Julian: No plea bargains. I want her to face the maximum sentence allowed by law.
Mr. Harrison: I will inform the district attorney immediately. You have my word, Julian, justice will be fully served.
Julian: Thank you, Mr. Harrison. For everything.
The attorney gathered his documents, offered a warm smile to little Lily, and walked out of the study, leaving Julian and Clara alone with the baby.
Clara: Mr. Sterling, if you don't mind me asking... what are you going to do with the estate now?
Julian: I'm going to turn this place into a real home, Clara. A place where Lily can grow up feeling safe, loved, and protected.
Clara: She's very lucky to have a father like you.
Julian: And we're very lucky to have you, Clara. Thank you for staying with us through all of this madness.
Clara: I'll always be here to help protect Lily, sir. Always.
