The orchestra paused as the evening host invited several honored guests onto the ballroom stage. Victoria Blake stepped confidently toward the microphone, smiling proudly while photographers captured every angle. Before she could begin speaking, her eyes locked onto Ava standing near the front of the audience.
Victoria's smile disappeared instantly.
"I knew you'd show up," she said loudly enough for nearby guests to hear. "You just can't accept that you lost."
Conversations throughout the ballroom slowly faded as curious guests turned toward the confrontation.
Ava remained calm. "I'm not here to argue."
Victoria laughed sarcastically. "No? Then why are you following me everywhere? You're still trying to ruin my reputation."
"The truth doesn't ruin reputations," Ava answered quietly. "People's choices do."
Victoria's expression hardened. She stepped closer and pointed directly at Ava.
"Not today! You'll never humiliate me again!" she shouted.
The accusation echoed across the silent ballroom.
Ava finally stepped forward. In the heat of the confrontation, she slapped Victoria across the face. The sharp sound stunned every guest. Even the orchestra stopped playing.
Victoria slowly touched her reddened cheek, staring back in disbelief.
"You'll regret touching me," she said through clenched teeth.
Ava met her gaze without flinching.
"Stop lying," she replied firmly. "Everyone deserves to know who you really are."
The ballroom remained silent. Some guests reached for their phones. Others whispered nervously, expecting security to intervene.
Victoria took a deep breath and forced a smile.
"You have no proof," she said confidently.
Ava slowly removed her phone from her purse.
Looking directly into Victoria's eyes, she said one sentence that instantly changed the mood inside the ballroom.
