Within ten minutes, the loud sound of police sirens echoed down the street below.
Heavy boots thundered down the hallway toward the locked penthouse office doors.
Marcus unlocked the door with a remote control button on his main desk.
Four armed police officers burst into the room with weapons drawn and ready.
They immediately placed silver handcuffs onto Victoria's wrists and led her away.
She wept quietly as she was dragged past the smashed syringe on the floor.
The chief of police walked up to Marcus and shook his hand with deep respect.
"We arrested Julian at his house ten minutes ago, Mr. Vance," the chief stated.
"We found the matching chemicals and the money transfers inside his private safe," he added.
Marcus nodded slowly, feeling a huge weight lift off his heavy shoulders.
The long two years of hiding his true physical recovery were finally over today.
He no longer had to play the part of a weak and defenseless victim.
The police officers collected the shattered glass evidence and left the sunlit office.
Marcus turned around and looked down at his tiny daughter standing near the desk.
Lily was still clutching her favorite doll, watching him with wide, curious eyes.
Marcus dropped down onto his knees and opened his arms wide for her.
Lily ran forward fast and threw her tiny arms tightly around his neck.
"You walked, Daddy! You stood up like a superhero!" Lily squeaked happily.
Marcus held her tight against his chest, tears finally leaking from his eyes.
"I will always stand up for you, my sweet little girl," Marcus whispered softly.
He picked her up effortlessly in his strong arms and stood up tall.
The warm sun shone brightly through the glass windows, filling the room with hope.
The danger that had threatened their lives for so long was officially gone forever.
Marcus looked out over the city skyline, holding his daughter safe and secure.
