The giant double front doors crashed open, slamming heavily against the tall interior plaster walls.
Mark stepped into the wide entry hall, his navy suit jacket unbuttoned and flying open wide.
His face was red with intense emotion, his breathing heavy after running up the front steps.
He caught sight of Victoria pulling his small daughter toward the dark rear pantry corridor.
Mark: What in the world do you think you are doing with my daughter, Victoria!
Victoria immediately dropped her hands and took a fast step back toward the marble wall.
Victoria: Mark, darling, you came back home much earlier than you said you would today!
Mark: Answer my question right now before I call the police to this private property!
Lily broke away from the wall and ran directly into her father's waiting strong arms.
Lily: Daddy, she hid my mother's bracelet and she tried to lock me in the room!
Mark lifted his young daughter high into his arms, holding her tight against his chest.
He patted her soft hair gently while keeping his fiery gaze fixed right on Victoria.
Mark: Is this how you treat my child the moment I turn my back to leave!
Victoria: She is lying to you, Mark, she fell over her own shoes and threw a tantrum!
Mark: Do not dare lie to my face while my child is trembling in my arms!
He walked forward with slow heavy steps, his tall shadow stretching across the bright floor.
Victoria backed away until her shoulders hit the gold framed USA flag on the wall.
Victoria: I was only trying to teach her some discipline while you were away working hard!
Mark: You have no right to discipline my child, especially not with such harsh cruelty!
He looked down at the floor and saw the broken silver bracelet under the edge cabinet.
He stooped down slightly without breaking eye contact, reaching out to scoop up the silver chain.
Mark: This belonged to my late wife, and you treated it like total worthless trash today.
Victoria: It was just a small accident, I swear I did not mean to break it!
Mark: I know all about your dirty little secrets now, so save your fake excuses today.
Victoria's jaw dropped open as a cold wave of realization washed over her whole body.
She realized Mark had not been at his regular business meeting in the city after all.
