The Groom Who Loved His Child

The Wealthy Groom Stopped His Wedding To Save His Daughter

Mark sat at his large wooden desk inside his bright office, looking at a framed picture of his young daughter, Chloe. His huge house was always full of bright sunlight, reflecting off the clean marble floors and white walls that made every room feel massive. A big American flag hung on the tall wall right near the grand hallway, showing his pride in his country and his hard work. Mark had built his entire company from nothing through years of early mornings and late nights. He spent almost every free hour taking care of Chloe after her mother passed away three years ago during a terrible winter night. Chloe was only five years old back then, and her soft blue eyes always looked up at Mark whenever she felt scared or lost. Mark promised himself that he would protect his little girl no matter what challenges came into their lives over the years.

Mark: You are the most important person in my life, Chloe.

Chloe: Do you promise to always stay with me, Daddy?

Mark: I promise you with all my heart, little girl.

Everything seemed calm until Mark met Vanessa at a charity party downtown about eighteen months ago. Vanessa was beautiful, dressed in expensive designer dresses, and always smiled when cameras were flashing around the crowded room. She worked for a fashion company and spoke with a smooth, sweet voice that made people believe every word she said. Mark thought Vanessa would bring warmth back into his quiet house after so many lonely years spent working and raising Chloe alone. He wanted Chloe to have a loving mother figure in her life again as she grew older into a young girl. During the first few months, Vanessa bought small toys for Chloe and smiled whenever Mark was standing nearby in the room. But when Mark left for work, Vanessa rarely spoke to Chloe or spent any quality time reading books with her in the evening.

Vanessa: We are going to be such a happy family soon, Mark.

Mark: I just want Chloe to feel safe and loved every day.

Vanessa: Of course, she will have everything she ever needs with us.

Mark was a very wealthy man with a huge estate and millions of dollars saved in secure bank accounts across the city. His lawyer, Marcus, had warned him to be careful when choosing a new partner after such a long time alone. Marcus helped Mark set up a strict trust fund for Chloe so her financial future would stay totally safe forever. Mark also signed a detailed prenup with Vanessa before they scheduled the big wedding day at his luxury home. Vanessa smiled and signed the documents without complaining at all, which made Mark trust her intentions even more deeply than before. He thought she truly cared about him and his daughter, not his large bank account or his expensive house. The whole city was invited to the grand event, and workers spent days setting up white flowers across the entire grand ballroom.

Marcus: Make sure your legal paper is completely solid before saying yes.

Mark: I already did, Marcus. Chloe is fully protected by law.

Marcus: Good, because large wealth always attracts people with hidden plans.

As the wedding date came closer, Chloe grew more quiet and stayed inside her bedroom upstairs for long hours every single afternoon. Mark noticed her sad face during dinner, but whenever he asked her about it, she just looked down at her plate. Vanessa always jumped into the conversation quickly, saying Chloe was just tired from school activities and needed extra rest every night. Mark trusted Vanessa's words, thinking his daughter was simply nervous about adjusting to a big stepmother figure living in their home. He bought Chloe new dresses and tried to spend extra time playing board games with her before bedtime each evening. But the small eight-year-old girl held a heavy secret deep inside her chest that she was too afraid to share out loud with her loving father.

Mark: Are you feeling okay about the wedding tomorrow, Chloe?

Chloe: I just hope you will not forget about me, Daddy.

Mark: That will never happen, my sweet girl. I promise.
