The Real Inheritance

The Tuxedo Veteran Heard A Muffled Scream Behind The Glass

Mark pulled the thick steel door of the wall safe wide open.

Inside lay three yellow legal folders tied together with black ribbon.

He picked up the top folder and pulled out the thick paper document.

The title at the top read Last Will and Testament in bold black letters.

Mark: This document carries Dad's official notary stamp from two years ago.

He scanned down the first page until he reached the distribution section.

Mark: The entire mansion and trust fund belong to Sophia upon turning eighteen.

Sophia gasped softly as she looked up at the high library ceiling.

Sophia: Dad really wanted me to keep the house and gardens safe?

Mark: He wanted you to be protected forever, little sister.

Mark turned to the second document sitting inside the yellow folder.

It was a legal paper showing a heavy mortgage taken out last month.

Mark: Who authorized a two million dollar loan against this family house?

Eleanor backed away toward the open library door with quick nervous steps.

Eleanor: The house needed urgent roof repairs and structural foundation work.

Mark: You transferred that entire cash amount into Chad's personal bank account.

Chad looked at his mother with wide eyes full of rising fear.

Chad: You said the lawyers agreed everything was completely fine, Mom!

Mark: She lied to you just like she lied to everyone else.

Mark pulled out his smartphone and dialed three quick numbers instantly.

Eleanor: Who are you calling at this hour of the afternoon?

Mark: I am calling County Sheriff Miller to visit our property right now.

Chad grabbed his mother's sleeve as panic finally took over his face.

Chad: We need to leave before the patrol cars arrive at the gate!

Mark: Nobody is leaving this room until the officers inspect these documents.
