The Sound Under the Marble

The Trapped Boy's Secret Under the Marble Floor

The morning sun beamed through the tall windows of the luxury home.

Sarah adjusted her navy blue suit as she looked over her schedule.

Everything seemed peaceful in the quiet living room.

Suddenly, a loud scream shattered the quiet morning.

Sarah dropped her papers onto the polished wooden desk.

She recognized her seven-year-old son's voice immediately.

Her heart pounded fast as she ran toward the grand living room.

The white marble floor gleamed under the bright lights.

Little Leo was kneeling on the cold floor in tears.

He was clawing frantically at a small crack in the tile.

Sarah: Leo, what is wrong?

Sarah: Why are you crying like this?

Leo: Mommy, he's crying!

Leo: Listen to him, please!

Sarah knelt right next to her trembling young boy.

She placed her warm hands on his shaking shoulders.

Leo pointed his small finger at the broken marble line.

Leo: Mommy, my little brother is crying under the floor!

Sarah felt a cold wave of fear wash over her body.

Her youngest son, Toby, was supposed to be asleep upstairs.

She had left him safely in his crib twenty minutes ago.

Leo began scraping at the floor with his bare fingers.

Leo: He is scared of the dark down there!

Sarah put her ear down close to the cold tile crack.

At first, she only heard the quiet hum of the air conditioner.

Then she heard a tiny, muffled whimper from below.

It sounded like a child crying deep behind the thick stone.

Sarah gasped and stared at the floor in total shock.

Footsteps echoed across the marble behind them.

Richard walked in carrying a silver tray with champagne glasses.

He wore his expensive white suit and smiled calmly.

Richard: What is all this noise about?

Sarah: Richard, Toby is under the floor!

Sarah: Help me get these tiles up right now!

Richard did not hurry over to help her.

He set the silver tray down on a nearby table slowly.

Richard: Stop digging!

Richard: It's just a water leak under the house!

Leo: No, it's Toby!

Leo: I hear him crying!

Richard shook his head with a cold, stern expression.

Richard: Leo is just making up stories again, Sarah.

Sarah: That is not a pipe leak, Richard!

Sarah looked closely at the dark crack in the marble.

She saw a faint shadow moving deep underneath the floor.

Her motherly instincts took total control of her mind.

She knew her eldest son was telling the absolute truth.
