Arthur dropped his heavy leather briefcase onto the hard floor with a loud thud.
His rapid footsteps echoed loudly across the wide space of the grand foyer.
He looked between his trembling young son and his wife's pale face.
Leo clung tightly to Elena's blue uniform, tears streaming down his cheeks.
Arthur: Leo! Are you hurt, buddy? What happened here?
Leo: Dad! She grabbed my bag and yelled at me to go away!
Victoria: Arthur, please do not listen to this silly dramatic overreaction!
Arthur: I am asking my son what just happened in this front hallway, Victoria!
Leo: I tripped because she rushed at me so fast, Dad!
Victoria: The boy is confused and tripped over his own clumsy feet on the stairs!
Elena: That is not true, Mr. Sterling, I saw her corner him right near the steps!
Arthur's face turned red with anger as he stepped directly between Victoria and his child.
His chest heaved with heavy breaths as he stared down at his wife.
He had spent months trying to make this blended family work peacefully.
Yet every single week brought new tension and unexplained arguments into the house.
Arthur: Why were you yelling at a seven-year-old child first thing in the morning?
Victoria: I was simply trying to keep order in this chaotic home!
Arthur: Scaring my son is not keeping order, Victoria!
Victoria: You always take the maid's word over mine every single time!
Arthur: Elena has taken care of this family with honesty for nearly eight years!
Victoria: And I am your legal wife who deserves your complete respect and trust!
Arthur looked down at the thick leather envelope lying on the side table.
Victoria quickly tried to reach for it, but Arthur beat her to it.
He picked up the smooth brown paper and saw a prominent law firm's official seal.
His eyes narrowed as he recognized the name of the estate attorneys on the stamp.
Arthur: Why are you receiving private mail from my family trust lawyers, Victoria?
Victoria: That is just personal paperwork regarding my personal financial estate planning.
Arthur: Our estate trust is strictly managed under my late wife's original trust agreement.
Victoria: I was merely checking on our family's future security measures!
Arthur: You have no legal authorization to touch those trust documents without me!
Leo wiped his wet eyes with his sleeve and pointed at the leather envelope.
Leo: Dad, she had that same paper out yesterday when you were at work!
Victoria: Be quiet, you little brat, you do not know what you are talking about!
Arthur: Do not you ever speak to my son in that tone again!
The air in the grand foyer felt icy cold as the truth began to breach.
Arthur pulled his son up into his strong arms and held him tight.
He looked at Elena and gave her a small, grateful nod of appreciation.
Arthur: Elena, please take Leo up to his bedroom and lock the inner door.
Elena: Right away, Mr. Sterling, come along sweet boy.
Victoria: Arthur, you cannot just send him away and interrogate me like a criminal!
Arthur: You and I are going into the study right now to open this envelope together.
