The Handcuffs On Embellished Silk

The Stepmother Poisoned My Maid Before Finding Out Who She Was

Victoria: Charles, please! Don't let the police drag me out in front of the neighborhood!

Charles: You should have thought about the neighborhood before you forced poison down an eighteen-year-old girl's throat.

Victoria: I will give back every diamond! I will sign away all claims to the trust fund!

Charles: The state supreme court already signed away your claims at eight o'clock this morning, Victoria.

Heavy tactical boots pounded across the marble floor of the grand foyer as four uniformed officers marched into the kitchen.

Leading the squad was Detective Marcus Miller from the Dallas Police Major Crimes Division, his gold shield catching the sunlight.

Detective Miller: Charles Sterling? We received the high-priority alert and monitored the live audio stream.

Charles: Over here, Detective Miller. The suspect is standing against the center island.

Victoria: Marcus Miller! Thank goodness it's you! Tell these officers to stand down! This is my home!

Detective Miller looked at Victoria with stone-faced professional disgust, unhooking his heavy steel handcuffs.

Detective Miller: Keep your hands where we can see them, Mrs. Vance. Do not attempt to move.

Victoria: Do not call me a suspect! I am the victim of domestic battery! Charles slapped me across the face!

Detective Miller: Under Texas Penal Code Section 9.32, deadly force is fully justified to prevent the poisoning of a family member, ma'am.

Victoria: Nobody was poisoned! The girl is sitting right there breathing on her own!

Detective Miller: We have the 4K security footage from the ventilation hood, Victoria. We watched you force that glass against her teeth.

Victoria's jaw dropped open, her eyes darting between the four armed officers as terror locked her throat.

Victoria: The ventilation camera... You recorded the entire breakfast preparation?!

Charles: Every single frame, Victoria. In high-definition audio and video.

Detective Miller: Victoria Vance, you are under arrest for attempted capital murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and corporate racketeering.

Victoria: What about bail?! When will the magistrate set my bond hearing?!

Detective Miller: Under Texas law, attempted capital murder with a chemical poison is a non-bailable felony. You are remanded to county lockup until trial.

Two uniformed patrolmen stepped forward, grabbing Victoria's wrists and wrenching them behind her embellished blue gown.

The cold steel handcuffs clicked shut around her wrists with a sharp, heavy double-snap that echoed off the high ceiling.

Victoria: Ah! You're tearing the silk embroidery! This gown cost twelve thousand dollars in Paris!

Officer Davis: Hands behind your back, ma'am. You have the right to remain silent.

Victoria: Charles, you coward! You weak, pathetic coward! I hope you rot in this empty mausoleum with your daughter!

Charles walked over to Emily, gently lifting her onto the transport gurney as the paramedics prepared to roll her toward the ambulance.

Charles: I am not alone, Victoria. I have my daughter, I have my family's honor, and I have the truth.

The officers dragged Victoria through the kitchen doorway and down the grand foyer toward the front entrance.

Her high heels scraped uselessly against the polished floor, her blue silk gown dragging through the spilled orange juice and dust.

Outside the tall arched glass windows, news vans and reporters who had monitored the police scanner were already crowding the gates.

Camera flashes exploded through the front portico as the heavy double doors swung wide open.

Reporter 1: Miss Vance! Did you attempt to murder Charles Sterling's daughter with chemical poison?!

Reporter 2: Is it true Vance Maritime was operating as an illegal international money-laundering ring?!

Victoria shrieked in absolute fury, thrashing wildly against the officers' iron grip as she tried to bury her face into her shoulder.

Victoria: Turn off those blinding cameras! Get those lenses away from me, you vultures!

Officer Davis pushed her head down firmly, guiding her onto the hard plastic back seat of the lead police cruiser.

The heavy car door slammed shut with a sharp, booming thud that echoed across the manicured courtyard.

The high-pitched wail of the sirens began to fade down the long tree-lined driveway as the convoy sped toward downtown Dallas.

Inside the quiet kitchen, Charles took Emily's hand, walking right beside the stretcher as they exited into the warm morning sun.
