The Red Mark On Blue

The Stepmother Dropped My Son Before Finding Out Her Secret

Victoria: You hit me! A billionaire CEO laid his hands on a Vance family heiress!

Julian: I should have thrown you out into the street six months ago, Victoria!

Victoria: I am your legal wife under Texas law! You can't speak to me like that!

Julian: You just dropped a seven-year-old boy thirty feet down into an open marble hall!

Victoria scrambled backward on her elbows, her blue satin blouse stained with dark wall dust.

Victoria: The boy was climbing on the outer banister looking for garden birds, Julian!

Julian: I saw your hands push his shoulders, Victoria!

Victoria: I was reaching out to catch his collar! He slipped right through my fingers!

Toby: That's a lie, Daddy! She grabbed my arms and held me over the drop!

Victoria: Shut your mouth, Toby! Julian, the child is in shock! He doesn't know what he's saying!

Julian: Toby knows exactly what happened, and so do I!

Julian gently set his son down behind a tall marble pillar on the landing.

Julian: Stay right there, buddy. Hold onto the base and keep your eyes shut.

Toby: Daddy, don't let her touch me again! She pinched my ribs this morning!

Julian knelt beside the boy, unbuttoning Toby's shirt with trembling fingers.

Three dark purple bruises ringed the boy's ribs where adult fingernails had gouged deep into the skin.

Julian: Look at this, Victoria. Look at your fingernail marks on my boy's chest!

Victoria: Those bruises were already there from soccer practice at school!

Julian: Toby hasn't attended school all week because you told me he had a contagious fever!

Victoria: He was coughing! I kept him in his bedroom to rest!

Toby: I wasn't sick, Daddy! She locked me in the storage closet so I couldn't see you before work!

Julian stood up slowly, the blood draining from his face as pure, lethal fury took over.

Julian: You kept my child locked in a windowless room while I was eating breakfast?

Victoria: He was throwing tantrums, Julian! A mother has to set household discipline!

Julian: You are not his mother, Victoria! You will never be his mother!

Victoria: His real mother is dead and buried! You need to accept reality!

Julian: Clara had more honor, grace, and love in her heart than your entire corrupt bloodline!

Victoria: Clara died broke! Her family had nothing until you married her!

Julian: Clara built the core maritime tracking algorithms that made Sterling Logistics worth billions!

Victoria: Well, she left that empire behind, and now it belongs to us!

Julian: It will never belong to you, Victoria. Not a single red cent!

Victoria sneered, pushing herself to her feet and leaning heavily against the brass balustrade.

Victoria: You signed our prenuptial agreement, Julian! If you file for divorce, I get forty percent of the estate!

Julian: Did you actually read clause fourteen of that agreement, Victoria?

Victoria: My father's corporate attorneys drafted every single line! I know the contract by heart!

Julian: Then you know what happens in cases of criminal felony violence against an immediate heir.

Victoria's confident sneer began to stiffen, her eyes darting nervously toward the stairs below.

Victoria: You can't prove violence! It's your word and an imaginative child's word against mine!

Julian: Look up at the brass ceiling medallion right above your head, Victoria.

Victoria froze, slowly tilting her head back to look at the ornate plaster scrollwork.

A tiny green indicator light pulsed steadily from behind the decorative molding, recording every word.

Julian: That camera has been live-streaming directly to the Dallas County Sheriff's office for the last twenty minutes.

Victoria's hands dropped limp to her sides, all the color draining from her face as the gallery fell deathly quiet.
