Handcuffs On Pink Silk

The Stepmother Dropped My Daughter From The Balcony Railing

Two uniformed patrolmen grabbed Victoria's wrists, twisting her arms firmly behind her pink silk shirt.

The cold steel handcuffs clicked shut around her wrists with a sharp, heavy double-snap that echoed through the gallery.

Victoria: Ah! You're tearing the seams of an eight-thousand-dollar designer blouse! Let go of my arms!

Officer Davis: Hands behind your back, ma'am. You have the right to remain silent.

Victoria: Julian, you weak, pathetic coward! I hope you rot in this empty mausoleum with your brat!

Julian looked down at her with icy, unwavering disgust, stepping sideways to clear the path for the officers.

Julian: I am not alone, Victoria. I have my daughter, I have my family's honor, and I have the truth.

The officers hauled Victoria toward the grand marble staircase, her designer high heels scraping uselessly against the stone risers.

Her pink silk shirt was twisted and stained with dust from the wall, tearing against the brass thresholds.

Outside the tall arched glass windows of the grand foyer, news vans and reporters who had monitored the police scanner were already crowding the gates.

Camera flashes exploded through the front portico as the heavy double doors swung wide open.

Reporter 1: Miss Vance! Is it true you attempted to drop Julian Sterling's six-year-old daughter off a thirty-foot balcony?!

Reporter 2: Did you embezzle twelve million dollars from Sterling Logistics to cover foreign shipping debts?!

Victoria shrieked in absolute fury, thrashing wildly against the officers' iron grip as she tried to bury her face into her shoulder.

Victoria: Turn off those blinding cameras! Get those disgusting lenses away from me, you filthy vultures!

Officer Davis placed a firm hand on the back of her head, guiding her down into the hard plastic back seat of the lead patrol cruiser.

The heavy car door slammed shut with a sharp, booming thud that echoed across the estate courtyard.

The high-pitched wail of the sirens began to fade down the long tree-lined driveway as the convoy sped toward downtown Dallas.

Inside the quiet grand foyer, Dr. Reynolds walked in through the front doors carrying his pediatric medical bag.

Emma sat on the velvet settee near the entrance, holding a warm mug of cocoa that Mrs. Higgins had brought out.

Dr. Reynolds: Julian, I just finished examining Emma in the foyer.

Julian: Doctor Reynolds! How is she? Are there any internal injuries from the fall?

Dr. Reynolds: Miraculously, Julian, she has zero physical trauma. Minor bruising on her wrists from earlier, but your catch prevented any impact injuries.

Julian: Thank God... Thank you, Doctor Reynolds.

Dr. Reynolds: Your quick reaction prevented what would have been a fatal impact on the marble floor, Julian. You saved your daughter's life today.

Julian dropped to both knees on the foyer tiles, opening his arms wide as Emma ran straight into his chest.

Emma: Daddy! The doctor gave me three cherry lollipops! And Mrs. Higgins made fresh cookies!

Julian: You are the bravest girl in the world, Emma. Daddy is never letting anyone hurt you again.

Julian buried his face into Emma's soft brown curls, tears of pure, overwhelming gratitude spilling onto his blue suit coat.

He lifted his head, looking over at Mrs. Higgins, who stood quietly near the entrance archway in her clean apron.

Julian: Mrs. Higgins... Thank you for calling my cell phone the moment you heard shouting on the terrace.

Mrs. Higgins: Sarah trusted me to look after this family, Mr. Sterling. I would die before I let that wicked woman harm Emma.

Julian: Starting today, Martha, your position as a domestic housekeeper on this estate is officially terminated.

Mrs. Higgins's eyes widened in sudden, quiet shock, her chin trembling slightly.

Mrs. Higgins: Mr. Sterling... Are you letting me go? I have lived in this mansion for twenty years, sir...

Julian: Letting you go? Martha, you are family. I am appointing you as Chief Executive Trustee of the Sarah Sterling Children's Foundation.

Mrs. Higgins: Executive Trustee...? Mr. Sterling, that foundation manages thirty million dollars!

Julian: And there is nobody on this earth I trust more to watch over my late wife's legacy.

Emma: Nana Martha is staying with us forever, Daddy?!

Julian: Forever, sweetheart. She is family now, and this is her home as long as she lives.

Tears of pure, beautiful joy welled in Mrs. Higgins's eyes as Emma reached out and hugged her waist tightly.

Mrs. Higgins: Thank you, Julian... Sarah is smiling down on this home today.

Julian: She is, Martha. And tomorrow morning, we clean house at corporate headquarters once and for all.
