A Change Of Fate

The Spoiled Heiress Tried To Strike An Elderly Woman

The heavy mahogany doors slammed shut behind Victoria, leaving a ringing silence in the grand ballroom. Arthur Vance turned his full attention away from the hallway doors and walked directly toward Clara, who stood nervously holding her hands together over her white apron.

Arthur: What is your name, young lady?

Clara: My name is Clara, sir. I am part of the evening catering staff.

Arthur: Clara, do you realize what you just did? You stood up to one of the most powerful heiresses in the state without flinching.

Clara: I was raised to protect people who cannot defend themselves, sir. It didn't matter who she was.

Eleanor reached up with a slight tremor in her fingers, grasping Clara's hand gently with a soft smile spreading across her face.

Eleanor: She saved me, Arthur. Victoria was going to strike me, and Clara stood like an iron wall.

Arthur: Mother, I am so sorry I left you unassisted near the hallway entrance. That will never happen again.

Eleanor: I don't need apologies, son. But I do need someone with a good heart to manage my daily care and my personal affairs.

Arthur nodded slowly, turning back to face Clara with a look of serious admiration.

Arthur: Clara, how much do they pay you to work as a catering maid for these events?

Clara: Twenty dollars an hour, sir. I needed extra shifts to pay for my mother's hospital bill.

Arthur: Consider your catering contract ended as of right now.

Clara felt a sharp spike of panic in her chest, thinking she was being let go despite Arthur's kind words.

Clara: Sir, please! I really need this job for my family!

Arthur: You misunderstands me, Clara. I am offering you the permanent position of Head Estate Coordinator and Personal Companion to my mother.

Clara: What... what does that mean?

Arthur: It means a salary of one hundred and fifty thousand dollars a year, full health insurance, and full coverage for your mother's hospital care starting tonight.

Clara gasped, covering her mouth with her hand as tears welled up in her eyes. Sarah, who was watching from behind the drink station, wiped away a joyful tear for her friend.

Eleanor: Please accept it, child. Kindness like yours is priceless in a house full of cold money.

Clara: Yes... yes! I accept! Thank you so much, Mr. Vance!

Arthur: Thank you, Clara. Honesty and courage deserve honor in this house.

Arthur turned to face the crowded ballroom, raising his glass high to make a quiet announcement to the entire room of wealthy guests.

Arthur: Tonight, we learned that true value does not come from bank accounts or expensive gowns. It comes from character.

The guests erupted into warm applause, celebrating Clara's bravery and the new chapter beginning for the Vance family estate.
