The Argument in the Foyer

The Secret She Kept Hidden in the Dallas Grand Mansion

The morning sun shone bright through the grand crystal windows of the Dallas mansion.

Clara stood near the top of the white marble staircase holding a blue folder.

Her hands shook gently as she held the legal papers close to her chest.

She was seven months pregnant and wanted nothing more than a peaceful life for her child.

Heavy footsteps echoed down the long hallway behind her on the polished floor.

Clara turned around slowly and saw her mother-in-law, Evelyn, walking toward her.

Evelyn wore a sharp purple suit and had a cold look in her eyes.

She had never accepted Clara into the wealthy family from the very first day.

Evelyn: You think you are so clever holding onto those family documents, don't you?

Clara: These are the official papers for the family estate, Evelyn.

Evelyn: You do not belong in this house, and you certainly do not deserve that money!

Clara: Mark gave me these documents because he trusts me to keep them safe.

Evelyn took two quick steps forward and reached out aggressively to grab the folder.

Clara gasped and took a safe step backward, keeping her distance from the top step.

The force of Evelyn's sudden movement knocked the papers right out of Clara's hands.

Dozens of loose sheets scattered everywhere through the air and down the marble steps.

Clara backed away toward the hallway wall, clutching her stomach with both hands.

Clara: Stop it! You are behaving like a crazy person!

Evelyn: I am saving this family from a greedy outsider like you!

Just then, fast running footsteps echoed from the front entrance below.

Mark burst through the heavy double front doors, holding a cup of coffee.

He dropped the coffee onto the floor when he saw his wife crying in fear.

Mark ran up the first few steps and stood between Clara and his mother.

Mark: What on earth is happening up here right now?

Clara: Mark! Please help me! She tried to take the baby's trust fund papers!

Mark looked down at the paper sheets scattered across the marble steps.

Then he looked up at his mother with pure disappointment and anger in his eyes.

Mark: I told you to leave Clara alone, Evelyn.

Evelyn: She is lying to you, Mark! She dropped those papers herself to make me look bad!

Mark: I have had enough of your cruel games in this house.

Mark reached out his hand and pulled Clara gently behind his back to keep her safe.

Evelyn stepped back slightly, surprised by how firm her son's voice sounded.

Evelyn: You dare speak to your own mother like this over a nobody?

Mark: You just chose the wrong family to mess with, Evelyn.

Mark took out his smartphone from his coat pocket with a swift motion.

Mark: I am calling our family lawyer and the police right now.

Evelyn's face turned completely pale as she clutched her gold necklace in shock.

The quiet mansion was suddenly filled with the heavy weight of a broken family.
