Two local sheriff deputies arrived at the mansion ten minutes later.
Mark showed them the security camera feed from the second-floor hallway.
The small lens above the office door had captured the entire incident.
It clearly showed Sarah grabbing the folder forcefully from Evelyn's arms.
Deputy: Mrs. Miller, you need to come with us to the station.
Sarah: You cannot arrest me in my own home!
Deputy: You are being detained for reckless endangerment and attempted theft.
Sarah sobbed loudly as the deputy escorted her out the front doors.
Mark watched from the doorway as the police car drove away down the driveway.
He walked back inside and went straight upstairs to Leo's bedroom.
Mark wrapped his arms around his brave little boy in a tight hug.
Mark: You did the right thing today, Leo.
Leo: Is Grandma going to be alright, Dad?
Mark: She is strong, buddy, we are going to the hospital right now to see her.
They drove to the city hospital with hopeful hearts.
Inside the bright recovery room, Evelyn was sitting up in her bed.
She had a bandage around her shoulder, but her smile was warm and clear.
Evelyn: Come here, both of you.
Mark and Leo sat on the chairs beside her hospital bed.
Mark: The sheriff checked the hallway camera footage, Mom.
Mark: Sarah will face full legal consequences for what she did.
Evelyn: I am just glad our family truth is out in the open now.
Mark: I filed for full custody and revoked her access to all accounts.
Mark: The family estate will be safe for Leo, exactly as you wanted.
Evelyn reached over and placed her hand over Mark's strong wrist.
Evelyn: You protected this family today, my son.
Mark: We protected each other, Mom, like we always do.
Three months later, the sun shone brightly over the mansion balcony again.
The American flag waved gently in the warm spring breeze.
Evelyn sat happily on the patio reading a book with Leo by her side.
Mark watched them from the doorway with a peaceful smile on his face.
Justice had prevailed, and their home was finally full of love and peace once more.
