Sarah was sitting comfortably on the white velvet sofa sipping imported herbal tea.
She jumped slightly when David slammed the heavy double doors open with force.
The sharp sound echoed loudly across the open cathedral ceilings of the mansion.
Sarah: David! You scared me. Why are you home so early today?
David stood in the doorway, his eyes fixed on her with cold intensity.
Lily stood safe behind her father's back, holding tightly to his trouser leg.
David: I arrived just in time to see what really happens in my absence.
Sarah placed her teacup onto the glass table, maintaining a calm composed smile.
Sarah: I have no idea what you are talking about, my love.
David: Do not call me that! Why was Lily washing heavy pots alone?
Sarah let out a light, rehearsed laugh and shook her styled head gently.
Sarah: She wanted to help out around the house today, David.
David: She is ten years old, Sarah! She was standing over steaming water!
Sarah stood up slowly, her defensive posture becoming rigid and sharp.
Sarah: I am trying to teach her responsibility and good solid manners.
David: Is locking her in the dark storage room also teaching responsibility?
Sarah's fake smile vanished instantly, her face turning completely pale with shock.
Sarah: She is lying to you! You know how imaginative children can be!
David: She is pointing directly at the small wooden door, Sarah!
David stepped forward rapidly, pointing a firm finger right at her face.
David: Hand me the key to that utility shed room right now!
Sarah: I do not have a key for that messy storage space!
David reached out and grabbed Sarah's designer leather purse off the side table.
Sarah: Put that down! You have no right to search my belongings!
David unzipped the leather bag and dumped its entire contents onto the table.
A set of small silver keys rattled loudly against the polished glass top.
One key had a small brass tag labeled with the word Shed.
David picked up the brass key, his hands shaking with intense emotional pain.
David: You lied to me from the very first day you moved in.
Sarah: David, please listen to me before you make a terrible mistake!
David: The only mistake I made was trusting you with my innocent daughter!
Sarah stepped back toward the wall, her arrogant posture completely breaking down.
Sarah: She was coming between us, David! She does not respect me!
David: She is a child! And you are going to leave this house today!
David turned to Lily and picked her up into a warm protect fold.
He walked directly toward the storage door to inspect what was inside.
He knew that this revelation was only the beginning of the whole truth.
