The Royal Crescent Ballroom glittered beneath towering crystal chandeliers as the city's wealthiest families gathered to celebrate Isabella's birthday.
Golden decorations covered every corner of the elegant hall.
Music played softly while guests laughed, raised their glasses, and admired the extravagant celebration.
Near the center of the ballroom, however, one young maid knelt quietly on the polished marble floor.
Her uniform was worn.
A small cut marked her cheek, and fresh tears rolled down her face.
She had spent the entire evening serving the guests without drawing attention to herself.
Then Isabella noticed her.
Wearing a stunning blue evening gown, she marched across the ballroom and stopped directly in front of the kneeling maid.
