The Silent Table at Night

The Rich Mother Denied Her Daughter Food at Dinner

The bright lights of the dining room shone brightly across the floor.

Victoria sat at the head of the big table in her dress.

She ate her expensive dinner without looking down at anyone else.

Victoria: Sit still and stop making noise.

Little Lily sat on the hard floor near the dark wooden table.

She was hungry and rubbed her small belly with her hand.

Lily: Please, Mommy, can I have some food?

Victoria did not even pause her fork for a single second.

She kept eating her warm steak while staring at her phone.

Victoria: You need to wait until everyone is completely finished.

The little girl wiped a tear from her soft cheek quickly.

She had not eaten anything since early in the morning hours.

Lily: My tummy hurts really bad, Mommy.

Victoria set her fork down on the silver plate with noise.

She looked down at the child with a very cold face.

Victoria: Stop crying right now or you get nothing at all!

She picked up a piece of dry crust from her plate.

She tossed it down onto the clean marble floor carelessly.

Victoria: There, eat that and keep quiet!

Lily reached out her small hand to grab the dry bread.

She was too young to understand why her mother was cold.

The large house felt cold despite the bright lights overhead everywhere.

Victoria went back to looking at her expensive phone screen happily.

She did not care about the little girl on the floor.

Suddenly the heavy front door opened with a loud sound outside.

Footsteps echoed across the high ceiling of the big front hallway.

Mark walked into the house holding his dark leather briefcase firmly.

He stopped moving the moment he stepped inside the bright room.

His eyes went straight to his young daughter on the floor.

Mark: What is happening right here in my house?

Victoria did not even bother to stand up from her seat.

She just rolled her eyes and took another quiet sip water.

Victoria: She was being loud, so I gave her food.

Mark dropped his briefcase onto the floor with a loud thud.

His face grew pale as he realized what was happening here.

He walked closer to the dining table with very fast steps.

Mark: You put our child on the floor like that?

Victoria: She needs to learn how to follow simple rules.

Mark looked down at the dry bread in his daughter's hand.

His heart broke into a million tiny pieces right that moment.

He knew his wife was cold, but this was too much.

He stepped right between Victoria and the small crying girl quickly.

Mark: This ends right now, Victoria!
