The dark tinted window of the sleek black car rolled down very slowly.
An older man with gray hair and a kind face looked out at Sarah and Timmy.
It was Arthur, the head butler who had worked for Richard's family for forty years.
Arthur: Get in, ma'am, before the cold air makes the young boy sick.
Sarah: Arthur, you will lose your job if Richard sees you helping us.
Arthur: I have served this family a long time, but tonight was too much to bear.
Sarah opened the heavy door and slid into the soft leather backseat with Timmy.
The car pulled away from the grand ballroom, leaving the bright lights far behind them.
Timmy: Is Daddy coming with us later, Arthur?
Arthur: No, young master, your father has made a very terrible mistake tonight.
Sarah looked out the window as tears finally began to stream down her face.
Sarah: I have no money, Arthur, he locked all the bank accounts already.
Arthur: Money is not what you need right now, Mrs. Sarah.
The older butler reached into his suit jacket and pulled out a thick yellow envelope.
He passed the heavy envelope back to Sarah with a very serious expression.
Sarah: What is this? Why are you giving this to me?
Arthur: That is the original trust fund paperwork left by Richard's late father.
Sarah opened the envelope and began reading the legal document by the soft interior light.
Her eyes grew wide as she scanned the precise legal terms on the crisp paper.
Sarah: This says the entire family estate belongs to the firstborn grandson!
Arthur: That is correct, ma'am, Richard never actually owned the family wealth.
Sarah: He lied to me for eight years about his entire fortune!
Arthur: He was only the trustee until Timmy reached his seventh birthday.
Sarah looked down at her son, who was fast asleep against her arm.
Sarah: Timmy turned seven years old just three days ago!
Arthur: Which means your son is the rightful owner of the entire trust fund now.
Richard had been spending money that was not legally his to touch at all.
If the board of directors found out, Richard would lose everything he cared about.
Sarah: Why didn't you tell anyone about this sooner, Arthur?
Arthur: I needed to be sure you would protect the boy from his father's greed.
Sarah squeezed the legal papers tight in her shaking hands, feeling a wave of hope.
She finally had the weapon she needed to protect her innocent son forever.
