The Necklace That Was Never Stolen

The prestigious Crown Jewel Gallery on Chicago's Magnificent Mile was filled with shoppers admiring rare diamonds displayed beneath sparkling glass cases. Wealthy collectors browsed quietly while security guards watched every corner of the elegant showroom.

Seventeen-year-old Ava Mitchell entered the store wearing a simple green jacket and a worn backpack. She had been invited to interview for a part-time customer service position after school and hoped it would help her save money for college.

While waiting near the entrance, Ava admired a beautiful pear-shaped diamond necklace displayed beneath bright lights.

Across the showroom, wealthy socialite Victoria Lawson noticed Ava standing near the jewelry case.

Moments later, Victoria glanced toward the empty space beside the display and immediately panicked.

She stormed across the showroom.

Pointing the necklace she believed Ava had taken, she shouted,

"You stole this, didn't you?"

Customers turned to stare.

Ava froze.

"I didn't steal anything."

Victoria stepped even closer.

"You were standing right here."

"Don't lie."

Embarrassed and frightened, Ava instinctively pushed Victoria away as she invaded her personal space.

Victoria stumbled backward and landed on the polished marble floor.

The showroom erupted with shocked gasps.
