Six months later, a small house near the coast was filled with warm sunlight.
Ethan stood near the crib in the nursery, holding his newborn daughter.
Grace walked into the room carrying a soft pink blanket for the baby.
Grace: She looks so much like you when she is sleeping peacefully.
Ethan: She has your gentle heart, Grace, and that is what matters most.
They placed the baby gently into the wooden crib near the sunny window.
Ethan took Grace's hand and pulled her into a warm, soft embrace.
Ethan: I never went back to the mansion, and I don't regret it.
Grace: Do you ever miss the life you had in that big house?
Ethan: That house was full of cold walls, but this place is a home.
A soft knock came at the front door down the short hallway.
Ethan walked to the door and opened it to find a lawyer standing there.
Lawyer: Good morning, Ethan. I have papers from your mother's estate attorney.
Ethan: Is something wrong with the final property settlement?
Lawyer: No, your mother signed over the remaining family properties to your daughter.
Ethan took the documents and looked at the clean signature at the bottom.
There was a small handwritten note attached to the legal papers from Eleanor.
Ethan opened the small card and read the simple words written inside.
Note: May my granddaughter grow up with the truth I failed to keep.
Grace came up behind Ethan and read the note over his arm slowly.
Grace: Do you think she finally understands what she did wrong?
Ethan: Maybe she does, but we have our own path to follow now.
Ethan handed the papers back to the lawyer with a decisive look.
Ethan: Put the properties into a trust fund for our daughter's college education.
Lawyer: I will handle the legal details right away, sir.
The lawyer departed down the garden path into the bright morning daylight.
Ethan turned back to Grace and kissed her forehead with total warmth.
Ethan: Let's go back inside and check on our baby girl together.
They closed the door to the sunny world outside, complete and content.
