The Confession On The Marble

Victoria stopped in her tracks, slowly pulling her hand out of her bag empty, her fingers trembling with fury[cite: 1].

Victoria: You are making a monumental mistake, Brenda[cite: 1]. My legal team will have this entire case thrown out before the sun sets today[cite: 1].

Officer Brenda: Your legal team was served with federal subpoenas twenty minutes ago[cite: 1]. Three of your senior corporate partners are already cooperating with the United States Attorney's Office[cite: 1].

Victoria: *Gasps* Those ungrateful cowards... I built their careers![cite: 1]

Officer Brenda: They don't want to serve twenty years in a federal penitentiary for wire fraud and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, Victoria[cite: 1]. They gave us everything[cite: 1].

Clara: *Whispering* The ledger... Mason... in the library safe...[cite: 1]

Mason leaned closer to Clara's face, his tears dripping onto the white sheet[cite: 1].

Mason: What ledger, Clara?[cite: 1]

Clara: The red leather ledger behind the oil painting... it has all the account numbers... for the offshore banks...[cite: 1]

Victoria: Shut your mouth, you miserable little tramp![cite: 1]

Victoria lunged toward the bed, her hands shaped like claws, but Officer Brenda moved instantly, stepping into her path and shoving Victoria back hard against the medical monitor[cite: 1]. The machine let out a loud, chaotic alarm tone as Victoria hit the metal frame[cite: 1].

Officer Brenda: I told you to stay still![cite: 1]

Victoria: She signed a non-disclosure agreement when she married my son![cite: 1] She has no legal right to touch those financial records![cite: 1]

Officer Brenda: Non-disclosure agreements don't cover federal felonies, Victoria[cite: 1]. We already seized the red ledger from your library safe an hour ago[cite: 1].

Victoria's jaw dropped, all the color draining from her face until she looked as pale as the white hospital walls behind her[cite: 1].

Victoria: You... you opened the floor safe?[cite: 1]

Officer Brenda: Clara gave us the combination three days ago before your guards dragged her out of her apartment[cite: 1]. She was two steps ahead of you the entire time[cite: 1].

Mason looked at Clara in complete awe, kissing her forehead gently[cite: 1].

Mason: You were trying to stop them all along...[cite: 1]

Clara: I wanted to save you from them, Mason...[cite: 1] I knew if you stayed in that house, they would turn you into one of them...[cite: 1]

Mason: I am so sorry I didn't believe you when you told me about the missing funds six months ago[cite: 1]. I was so blind...[cite: 1]

Clara: You're here now... that's all that matters...[cite: 1]

The heavy footsteps of four uniformed Texas State Troopers echoed down the hallway outside, their tactical boots clicking rapidly against the floor[cite: 1]. They pushed open the door, standing firmly in the doorway with handcuffs ready[cite: 1].

Officer Brenda: Take her into custody[cite: 1]. First-degree aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit murder, and federal financial fraud[cite: 1].

Trooper Jackson: Hands behind your back, ma'am[cite: 1]. Do not resist[cite: 1].

Trooper Jackson pulled Victoria's arms behind her dark velvet blazer, snapping the cold steel handcuffs around her wrists with a sharp, metallic click[cite: 1].

Victoria: Mason! Tell them to stop! You are my son! You cannot let them drag me out of here like a common criminal![cite: 1]

Mason stood up, walking over until he was standing directly in front of his mother[cite: 1]. He looked into her desperate, angry eyes without a single trace of weakness left in his posture[cite: 1].

Mason: You aren't my mother anymore, Victoria[cite: 1]. You're just a monster in a velvet blazer[cite: 1].

Victoria: You will rot in poverty without my trust fund! You hear me?! You will have nothing![cite: 1]

Mason: I have Clara[cite: 1]. That's more than you'll ever have in that prison cell[cite: 1].

The troopers yanked Victoria around, marching her forcefully out of the room[cite: 1]. Her frantic screams echoed down the long hospital corridor, fading slowly until the room was once again filled with only the quiet, steady beep of Clara's heart monitor[cite: 1].
