Evelyn: Your father left the estate to you, Julian! You are the sole male heir!
Julian: Father left the estate to his biological daughter, Evelyn. The daughter you threw out like trash twenty-two years ago.
Clara: I didn't come here for your mansion, Mrs. Sterling. I came here to find the truth about my birth father.
Evelyn: Your birth father was a billionaire! You are nothing but an orphan raised in a state shelter!
Clara: I was raised by a woman who taught me honor, something you clearly know nothing about.
Evelyn took two slow, trembling steps toward the center of the marble floor. Her knees buckled slightly, her manicured hands shaking as she looked down at the green jade crescent lying near Clara's feet.
Evelyn: Let me see the locket...
Julian: Do not touch it! You lost the right to touch anything in this house the moment you tore her dress!
Evelyn: Julian, please! I am your mother!
Julian: You are a criminal who forged adoption records and committed felony assault in front of two hundred witnesses!
Evelyn slowly dropped to her knees on the cold white marble tile. Her emerald green designer gown pooled around her legs as she reached out with trembling hands, picking up the two broken halves of the jade locket.
She pressed the stone pieces together in her palms, aligning the carved silver crest that joined the crescent shape. Inside the small metal latch was an engraved inscription: To my beloved daughter, Clara Sterling.
Evelyn: Forgive me... I humiliated my own daughter before the whole world!
Clara: You didn't humiliate me, Mrs. Sterling. You humiliated yourself.
Evelyn: Clara... my baby girl... I thought you were gone!
Clara: Do not call me your baby girl. You didn't care about me when you thought I was just a guest in a black dress.
Evelyn buried her face in her hands, sobbing uncontrollably on the stone floor while the high-society guests looked down at her with complete disdain.
Julian: Stand up, Mother. You look pathetic.
Evelyn: Julian, tell her to forgive me! Tell her we can fix this family!
Julian: There is no family to fix, Evelyn. You spent twenty-two years living off a lie, and today the bill came due.
Heavy footsteps echoed down the grand hallway as two uniformed police officers walked into the ballroom, accompanied by the chief legal officer for Sterling Global, Arthur Vance.
Lawyer Vance: Mr. Sterling, we received your emergency dispatch signal.
Julian: Thank you for arriving so quickly, Arthur. The suspect is right there on the floor.
