Arthur Wilmoth walked into the grand foyer holding his briefcase.
Behind him stood two city police officers in dark blue uniforms.
Arthur had returned early to pick up forgotten documents for his court hearing.
He stopped dead in his tracks as he saw the scene before him.
Victoria was clutching her red cheek near the stairs.
Elena was standing fiercely in front of Toby with her arms out.
Toby was weeping loudly, his face buried in Elena's apron.
Arthur: What is going on here?
Arthur's deep voice filled the hallway with immediate authority.
Victoria instantly changed her expression, bursting into fake tears.
She rushed toward Arthur, throwing her arms around his neck.
Victoria: Arthur, thank goodness you are home!
Victoria: Your maid has completely lost her mind!
Victoria: She assaulted me for no reason at all!
She pointed a trembling finger at the quiet maid.
Arthur looked confused as he glanced between his wife and Elena.
He walked closer to his young son, dropping his heavy briefcase.
Toby pulled away from Elena and ran straight toward his father.
The boy wrapped his small arms around Arthur's leg, sobbing hard.
Toby: Daddy, she pushed me down the stairs!
Arthur froze completely as his son spoke those words.
He knelt down on the hard floor to look his son in the eyes.
Arthur: What did you say, Toby?
Toby: Victoria tripped me and pushed me!
Toby: Elena caught me before I hit the ground!
Victoria let out a loud and dramatic gasp of indignation.
Victoria: Arthur, he is lying or confused!
Victoria: He tripped over his own shoes!
Elena stepped forward, refusing to back down now.
Elena: Check the staircase security cameras, Mr. Wilmoth!
Elena: You installed them last month for safety.
Victoria's face turned pale at the mention of the cameras.
