The Doors Swing Open

The Maid Saved His Daughter Before the Wealthy Stepmother Ruined Everything

Arthur Vance stood in the large doorway, holding his leather briefcase tightly in his right hand.

He looked at his crying daughter sitting on the marble floor next to his wounded house maid.

His sharp brown eyes quickly shifted toward his wife, who stood over them with raised hands.

Arthur: What on earth is going on in my home right now?!

The heavy slam of the door echoed through the wide foyer, cutting through the tense silence.

Arthur took rapid, heavy steps across the polished floor, his dark business suit sharp and neat.

He immediately dropped his expensive briefcase onto the floor without caring where it landed.

Evelyn: Darling, thank goodness you are home early from your long corporate board meeting!

Arthur: Why is my daughter weeping on the hard floor with our house maid?

Evelyn quickly put on a tearful face, attempting to wipe away fake tears with her hands.

Evelyn: The maid was extremely careless while cleaning near the upper balcony railing!

Evelyn: She nearly dropped our sweet Lily over the edge onto the marble floor below!

Clara looked up at Arthur with calm, steady eyes, despite her painful bruised cheek.

Clara: That is a complete lie, Mr. Vance, and you deserve to know the real truth.

Arthur: Clara, speak to me right now and tell me what happened to Lily.

Lily: Daddy! Stepmom Evelyn held me over the high balcony rail and let me fall!

The little girl pointed her small, trembling finger directly at the dressed-up woman standing nearby.

Arthur stopped dead in his tracks, his face turning pale before flushing dark with deep anger.

Arthur: Evelyn, is my small daughter speaking the truth to me right now?

Evelyn: Of course not! The child is just confused and influenced by this lying servant!

Arthur knelt down beside Clara and his young daughter, placing a gentle hand on Lily's head.

He saw the noticeable bruise forming rapidly on Clara's cheek and the dust on her apron.

It was obvious to him that Clara had physically dived to catch his falling daughter.

Arthur: Clara, did you catch my little girl when she fell from above?

Clara: Yes sir, I dove across the floor just in time to break her fall.

Arthur: You saved my daughter's life while risking your own physical safety tonight.

Arthur stood up slowly, his tall frame towering over his trembling wife in the foyer.

His face twisted into an expression of pure, unbridled fury as he faced Evelyn directly.

Arthur: How could you do something so insanely cruel to an innocent small child?!

Evelyn: I swear to you, Arthur, it was all just a terrible misunderstanding!
