The Maid in the Hotel Hallway

The Grand Wellington Hotel welcomed the city's wealthiest guests with marble floors, gold-trimmed hallways, and sparkling crystal chandeliers.

Every corridor reflected luxury.

Every employee wore a perfect smile.

Lucia was no different.

Dressed in a blue housekeeping uniform, she quietly pushed her cleaning cart down the elegant hallway, preparing the final rooms before the evening ended.

As she approached the corner, she politely smiled at a couple walking toward her.

"Good evening, sir..."

The words caught in her throat.

She froze.

Standing only a few feet away was Ethan.

Her husband.

The man who had vanished months earlier without a single explanation.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

Lucia's hands tightened around the cleaning cart as tears slowly filled her eyes.

"Ethan..."

She barely managed to whisper his name.

His face instantly lost its color.

"What are you doing here?" he whispered back, unable to hide the panic in his voice.

Lucia stared at him in disbelief.

She had imagined this moment countless times.

She never imagined it would happen while she was wearing a maid's uniform.

Standing beside Ethan was an elegant woman in a red silk gown wearing a large diamond engagement ring.

She looked back and forth between them, immediately sensing something was terribly wrong.

"You know her?"

No one answered.

The silence said more than words ever could.

The woman slowly tightened her grip on Ethan's sleeve.

Her confident smile disappeared.

The Truth He Couldn't Hide

Lucia tried to hold back her tears.

She lowered her eyes, hoping she could simply walk away.

But Ethan couldn't stop staring at her.

Then...

His gaze dropped.

Beneath Lucia's loose housekeeping uniform was the unmistakable curve of a pregnant belly.

His breathing became uneven.

Everything around him seemed to disappear.

The woman beside him looked at Lucia again.

Then at Ethan.

Finally, she asked the question everyone already knew the answer to.

"Who is she?"

Ethan closed his eyes for a brief moment.

When he finally spoke, his voice was barely above a whisper.

"She's my wife."

The luxurious hallway fell completely silent.

Guests walking past slowed to a stop.

Even the hotel staff stood frozen.

The woman in the red gown immediately released Ethan's arm.

Her face filled with shock.

Lucia looked down at the cleaning cart, quietly wiping away another tear.

She refused to create a scene.

She refused to beg.

With heartbreaking dignity, she stepped aside and softly said,

"Please continue to your room."

Ethan couldn't move.

For the first time, he truly saw what his choices had done.

The woman he had abandoned was carrying his child...

Working long hours in a luxury hotel...

Pretending every day that her heart wasn't breaking.

And in that silent hallway, surrounded by strangers, Ethan realized he hadn't lost his marriage that night.

He had lost it the day he walked away from the only woman who had never stopped waiting for him.
