The distant sound of sirens echoed through the quiet neighborhood outside.
Victoria dropped the metal fire poker onto the tile floor.
The heavy iron bar made a loud clattering noise.
She turned around and rushed back toward the front entrance.
Grace followed her carefully while keeping a safe distance behind.
She wanted to make sure Arthur was still breathing safely.
The old man was stirring slowly on the foyer floor.
His eyelids fluttered open as Grace knelt back beside him.
Grace: Stay still, sir. Help is almost here.
Arthur: Grace... the phone...
Grace: I have it safe right here, Mr. Whitfield.
Arthur: She... she altered my estate documents.
Grace: I know, sir. I saw everything on the screen.
Arthur let out a weak sigh of relief and closed his eyes.
The front doors burst open as paramedics rushed inside.
Two police officers walked in directly behind the medical team.
The paramedics immediately knelt down to treat Arthur's head injury.
They placed a neck brace on him with great care and focus.
Victoria was sitting on the bottom stair trying to cry softly.
She put on a convincing display of deep sorrow for the officers.
Victoria: Officer, my stepfather tripped and fell down the stairs!
Victoria: This maid pushed past me and tried to steal his personal items!
The lead police officer looked over at Grace with a serious face.
Officer Miller: Is this true, young lady?
Grace: No, officer. I saved his phone from being destroyed.
Grace handed the black smartphone directly to the police officer.
She explained the secret recording stored inside the audio files.
Officer Miller unlocked the device and pressed play on the recording.
Victoria's loud voice echoed clearly through the marble foyer again.
Her own words revealed her plan to steal the family fortune.
The officer looked over at Victoria with cold disgust in his eyes.
Victoria's fake tears stopped instantly as her face went pale.
She realized there was no escape from the evidence.
Officer Miller: Ma'am, you need to stand up right now.
Victoria: You cannot arrest me in my own home!
Officer Miller: We are taking you in for questioning regarding elder abuse.
The second officer placed handcuffs around Victoria's slender wrists.
She screamed loudly as she was led out the front door.
Arthur was carefully lifted onto a rolling stretcher by the paramedics.
He looked at Grace with deep gratitude in his weak eyes.
