The Noise Behind The Wall

The Maid Found A Boy Hidden Behind The Mansion Wall

Elena adjusted her grey uniform apron as she pushed the heavy cleaning cart through the bright hallway.

The sun shone brightly through the tall arched windows of the grand lakeside estate.

She had been working for the wealthy Sterling family for only three weeks.

Richard Sterling was a famous real estate investor who had built a massive fortune in the city.

His wife Victoria was a cold woman who spent most of her time shopping for expensive gold dresses.

Elena kept her head down and focused on her daily chores to avoid any trouble.

She needed this job to pay for her daughter’s college tuition back in her small hometown.

As she wiped down the white wooden paneling, a strange metallic scratching sound caught her attention.

She stopped her mop and held her breath to hear where the sound was coming from.

The noise echoed again, louder this time, coming from behind a large painting.

It was a massive framed painting of an American flag hanging at the far end of the hallway.

Elena stepped closer to the wall and placed her palm gently against the canvas frame.

She felt a faint vibration along the surface of the wood.

Elena: Hello? Is someone back there?

A quiet, shivering breath answered her from the dark space behind the painting.

Elena felt her heart freeze in her chest as she realized a person was trapped inside.

She grabbed the sides of the heavy picture frame and pulled with all her strength.

The painting slid off its wall hook with a sharp rattle, revealing a large metal air vent.

The vent grille was locked in place with a heavy metal padlock.

Elena dropped her dusting cloth and pulled a blue screwdriver out of her utility belt.

Her hands trembled violently as she jammed the tool into the lock mechanism.

Elena: Don't panic, little one. I am going to get you out.

The lock gave a loud click and popped open under her frantic pressure.

She pulled the metal grille open and peered into the pitch-black wall cavity.

A small seven-year-old boy sat huddled in the dark, his cheeks wet with fresh tears.

He blinked against the sudden flood of bright hallway light and squeezed his eyes shut.

Elena reached her arms deep into the narrow space without hesitating for a single second.

Elena: Hold on sweetheart, I'm getting you out!

She wrapped her fingers tightly around his small waist and pulled him toward the open hallway.

Leo: He trapped me! He said no one would find me!

Elena pulled the sobbing child completely out of the wall and held him close against her chest.

She rocked him back and forth on the cool floor while he sobbed into her grey apron.

The loud sound of fast footsteps on the polished marble echoed from the main staircase.

Richard Sterling rushed down the corridor with his face red with sudden rage.

Victoria followed close behind him, her gold sequin dress shimmering in the sunlight.

Richard: Get back right now or you're fired!

Richard shoved Victoria aside roughly, making her stagger across the floor.

Victoria lost her balance and hit the cold marble floor with a loud gasp.

Richard leaned over her with an aggressive finger pointed right at her face.

Richard: How dare you hide my son behind a wall! You are going to prison for this!
