The Maid Dropped To Her Knees When The Stepmother Let Go

The golden railings of the second-floor balcony inside the Palm Beach mansion glistened under the grand crystal chandelier. High on the main wall of the grand foyer, a large American flag hung in quiet dignity above the polished white marble floor. Below, the household nanny, Maria, knelt on the cold stone, holding her breath in absolute terror. Upstairs, Veronica stood in a glittering gold satin dress, her polished nails digging into the white blanket wrapping five-year-old Lily. The helpless little child hung over the deadly ledge, her tiny feet dangling above the hard marble below.

Veronica: Look carefully, because this is where she falls!

Maria: Please, Miss Veronica! Put her down! She's just a child!

Veronica: She is a brat who stands between me and this entire estate!

Maria: No! Don't do it! I'm begging you!

Veronica: You won't be around to ruin my life anymore, you miserable little leech!

Lily let out a sharp cry as Veronica callously opened her hands, letting the white-wrapped baby bundle drop directly toward the hard stone floor below. Maria lunged forward across the pristine marble with every ounce of strength in her body, sliding on her knees with her arms outstretched. She caught the weeping little girl safely against her chest just inches before impact, wrapping her arms tightly around the trembling child.

Maria: Please stop right now! I have her! She's safe!

Veronica stared down from the high balcony, her pale face twisting in wide-eyed shock as her cruel plan failed. But before she could react, the massive wooden double front doors of the mansion swung wide open. Richard, dressed in a sharp black business suit, stood in the doorway, his face dark with intense, unbridled fury. He had arrived just in time to see his new wife attempt to drop his child.

Richard: WHAT IS GOING ON IN MY HOUSE?!

Maria: Mr. Sterling! Oh God, Mr. Sterling, thank heaven you're home!

Maria: She deliberately dropped the baby!

Veronica: Richard! Wait! It's not what it looks like!

Richard charged across the pristine white marble floor, his heavy leather dress shoes echoing like thunder against the walls. His jaw was clenched so tightly his teeth ground together, his eyes locked onto his terrified daughter trembling in the nanny's arms. He dropped to his knees on the stone, gathering Lily into his arms and pulling her close against his chest.

Richard: Shh, baby, I've got you. Daddy's here. You're safe now, sweetheart.

Maria: She held her over the edge, sir! I had to catch her on the floor!

Veronica: That maid is lying, Richard! Lily slipped! I was trying to hold onto her blanket!

Maria: You screamed that she was going to fall, Miss Veronica! I heard you with my own ears!

Veronica: Shut up, you worthless servant! You're making up stories to protect your job!

Richard stood up slowly, his daughter still held securely in his left arm. His eyes narrowed as he looked up at the second-floor balcony, his entire body shaking with pure wrath. He turned toward the grand staircase and began marching up the steps, his long strides carrying him toward the upper landing.

Richard: Stay down here with Maria, Lily. Don't look up.

Richard: Get out of my house immediately! Call 911!

Veronica: Richard, stop! Don't come up here!

Richard: You are completely out of your mind!

Veronica stumbled backward against the golden railing as Richard reached the top of the stairs, his dark suit shadow looming over her. He grabbed her aggressively by her satin-draped shoulders, screaming at her in blazing wrath while his eyes burned with pure fury.
