The Fall Of Evelyn Vance

The Lost Child Sitting At My Dining Table

Evelyn: Call it whatever you want! I am the head of the Vance family foundation, and you cannot remove me without a two-thirds vote from the executive board!

Julian: Read the corporate charter again, Evelyn. Section 12, Clause C.

Evelyn: What clause?

Lawyer: Any board member involved in active financial embezzlement from charity accounts or subject to criminal prosecution automatically forfeits all voting power and executive seats immediately.

Evelyn: I didn't embezzle anything! That two hundred thousand dollars was a private consultation fee!

Lawyer: A consultation fee paid directly to a Chief Medical Officer who specializes in obstetrics? The paper trail is completely solid, Mrs. Vance.

Julian: And the chief of police is currently parking his car outside the front gates.

Evelyn's face turned as white as the marble floor beneath her feet, her hands trembling so hard her diamond rings clattered together.

Evelyn: You... you called the police on your own mother?

Julian: You committed child concealment, extortion, forgery, and grand larceny against my charity foundation. Did you really think you would get away with it forever?

Evelyn: Julian, please! Think about the press headlines tomorrow morning! The Vance stock will plummet by thirty percent!

Julian: I don't give a damn about the stock price, Evelyn! I care about the five years I lost with my little girl!

Mia: Daddy, why is the lady shouting so loud?

Julian walked over to the dining table, picking Mia up in his arms and holding her close against his shoulder, letting her feel completely safe.

Julian: She's shouting because she's leaving, sweetie. And she's never coming back.

The heavy front doors opened, and two uniformed police officers stepped into the bright dining hall, accompanied by Chief Officer Davis.

Officer Davis: Mr. Vance. We received the evidence files sent by your legal department.

Julian: She's right there, Chief. Evelyn Vance.

Evelyn: Get your hands off me! Do you know who I am? I donated millions to your police department's annual gala!

Officer Davis: That doesn't give you the right to forge medical records or steal money from charities, ma'am. Hands behind your back.

Evelyn: Julian! Tell them to stop! You can't let them put handcuffs on me in my own dining room!

Julian: This isn't your dining room anymore, Evelyn. This is Mia's home now.

Evelyn: You ungrateful boy! I gave you everything! I built your entire career!

Julian: You built a house of lies, and today it completely collapsed on top of you.

The police officers pulled Evelyn's arms behind her back, clicking the cold steel handcuffs firmly over her wrists while her two assistants backed away in silence, refusing to help her.

Evelyn: I will spend millions on the best defense lawyers in the country! I will be out by tonight!

Lawyer: All your personal and corporate bank accounts have been frozen under an emergency injunction, Mrs. Vance. You won't be paying for anything.

Evelyn let out a sharp, hysterical scream as the officers escorted her out through the massive glass doors, her loud voice fading away as the police car doors slammed shut outside.
