The Mansion On The Hill

The Little Girl Saved Her Father Before It Was Too Late

Arthur stood near the large window of his grand dining room looking out at the morning sun.

His wealthy estate was peaceful on the outside, but inside his heart felt very heavy and restless.

His young daughter Lily sat at the quiet wooden table drawing pictures with bright red crayons.

Her mother had passed away two years ago, leaving a big empty space in their daily lives.

Arthur had tried his best to keep the quiet house warm and full of real love.

Then he met Victoria, a charming woman who promised to bring happiness back into his life.

They were planning a small private dinner tonight with a few close business associates and friends.

Victoria entered the wide room carrying a tray of polished silver cups and sweet fresh fruit.

She wore a bright cream dress that looked very elegant under the soft crystal room lights.

Lily looked up from her paper and watched Victoria with very sharp and watchful young eyes.

The young girl never quite trusted the sweet smiles that Victoria gave her when Arthur left.

Victoria: Good morning, Arthur, my love.

Arthur: Good morning, Victoria.

Victoria: You look tired today, dear.

Arthur: Work has been very busy lately.

Victoria: I made your favorite herbal tea.

Arthur: Thank you, that is very sweet.

Lily pressed her red crayon hard against the clean paper until the thin tip broke off.

She had seen Victoria whispering near the dark pantry cabinet just a few short minutes ago.

Victoria had hidden a tiny glass bottle inside the deep pocket of her fine cream apron.

The little girl did not know what was inside, but her small heart felt very afraid.

Arthur reached out his right hand to take the warm cup from the clean silver tray.

Victoria smiled warmly, but her hands were trembling just a tiny bit as she held it.

Lily: Daddy, please do not drink that!

Arthur: What is wrong, sweet girl?

Victoria: She is just playing games, dear.

Lily: No! I am not playing!

Arthur paused with his hand near the hot tea, feeling sudden confusion in his chest.

He looked at his small daughter, who was standing up with wide and frightened eyes.

The grand home was quiet except for the low hum of traffic outside the clear window.

Something about Lily's urgent voice made Arthur pause and lower his hand back down slowly.

Victoria quickly stepped forward and put a firm hand on Arthur's broad shoulder with confidence.

Victoria: Drink your tea before it gets cold.

Arthur: Let me see why she is upset.

Victoria: She is just seeking your attention.

Lily: Daddy, listen to me please!

Lily walked closer to the big wooden table, pointing her finger directly at the cup.

Arthur looked deeply into his young daughter's eyes and saw real terror hidden inside them.

He knew his daughter never lied about important things, especially when she looked this scared.

Victoria tried to laugh off the tension, but her cheeks turned pale under the light.

The morning sun beamed through the glass, casting long sharp shadows across the clean floor.

Arthur decided to set the hot cup down for a brief moment to listen carefully.

He pulled Lily into a tight hug, feeling her small ribs shaking against his ribs.

Arthur: Tell me what you saw, sweetie.

Lily: She poured white dust into it!

Victoria: That is complete nonsense, Arthur!

Arthur: Let the child speak, Victoria.

Victoria took a step back, her sharp fingernails digging deep into her own leather purse.

The dark truth was starting to untangle in the grand quiet room of the mansion.
