Carter turned toward the grand staircase with swift, purposeful strides.
He charged up the wide marble steps two at a time.
Victoria turned around at the top of the landing, her eyes wide with fear.
Victoria: Stay away from me, Carter!
Carter: You tried to steal everything my grandfather built!
He reached the top of the stairs and blocked the narrow exit corridor.
Victoria pressed herself back against the polished wooden railing.
Victoria: I am the legal power of attorney for this estate!
Carter: You locked Lily in the pantry and isolated my grandmother!
Victoria: She is old and unfit to manage her own finances!
Carter pulled the forged papers from his jacket pocket and held them in her face.
Carter: You forged her name on a life insurance transfer!
Victoria: You cannot prove anything in a court of law!
Carter: I don't need to prove it, the paperwork speaks for itself!
Victoria reached out to grab the paper out of his hands.
Carter grabbed her wrist firmly, stepping closer to confront her.
Carter: You will answer for what you did to this family!
Victoria gasped sharply as she pulled her hand back in shock.
Victoria: Touch me again and I will call the police on you!
Carter: The police are already on their way here right now.
Lily shouted up from the bottom of the grand staircase.
Lily: The paramedics just pulled into the driveway, Carter!
The crematorium worker stepped back toward the open front door, looking nervous.
Crematorium Worker: I am cancelling this service call immediately.
Carter: You better stay right there to give a formal statement!
Victoria backed down the hallway toward her locked office door.
Victoria: This house belongs to me under the new trust agreement!
Carter: That agreement was revoked by my grandfather five years ago!
Carter took three steps forward, his chest rising and falling heavily.
Carter: Show me the original deed if you think you own this place.
Victoria fell silent, her hand trembling against her office door handle.
