Richard stared at the small glass bottle sitting in Leo's open palm.
Richard: Where exactly did you get this item, Leo?
Leo: It was hidden behind a life insurance document in Dad's desk.
Richard: We need to take this directly to the doctors right now.
Richard took Leo by the hand and hurried out to his vehicle.
They drove quickly through town toward the busy city general hospital.
The hospital lobby was filled with nurses walking between busy corridors.
They found David standing outside the intensive care unit doors alone.
David: Why did you bring Leo here when I told you to stay?
Richard: He had something important that needed my immediate attention, David.
David: This is a private family matter that does not concern you.
Richard: Anything involving Sarah's life concerns me deeply as her brother.
A tall doctor in blue scrubs walked out through the double doors.
Doctor: Are you the immediate family members of Sarah Miller?
David: Yes, I am her husband, and this is our young son.
Doctor: Your wife is stable, but we found traces of toxins in her system.
David's face turned completely white as he heard the doctor's words.
David: Toxins? That must be some kind of terrible mistake, Doctor.
Doctor: We are running detailed blood tests to identify the exact substance.
Leo stepped forward and pulled the tissue-wrapped bottle from his pocket.
Leo: Doctor, please test the liquid inside this bottle right now.
David: Leo! Give that back to me right this instant!
Richard immediately stepped between David and the young boy.
Richard: Back off, David, let the medical professional examine it.
The doctor took the small bottle carefully with gloved hands.
Doctor: I will send this straight to our laboratory for urgent analysis.
David took a step backward while looking around the busy hallway.
Leo: You put something in her tea this morning, didn't you?
David: That is an absurd lie made up by a frightened child!
Richard: Then stay right here until the lab results come back, David.
