Sarah held her ground as the front door was thrown open down the hall.
Two uniform officers stepped quickly into the home with sharp looks on their faces.
Officer Harris: Is everyone alright in here?
Sarah: Officer, over here in the kitchen!
Mark immediately changed his expression, putting on a calm, warm smile.
He stepped toward the officers with his hands raised in a friendly gesture.
Mark: Good afternoon, officers, this is just a minor family misunderstanding.
Officer Harris: We received a direct emergency report of unlawful restraint.
Sarah: Look at the floor right in front of them!
The officers looked down at the heavy iron chain resting on the tile.
Officer Harris knelt and inspected the heavy weight of the metal lock.
Officer Harris: Who put this object on the young boy?
Evelyn: It was an innocent family game that went slightly too far.
Sarah: It was not a game, and I have clear video proof!
Sarah pulled out her tablet once again and handed it to the officer.
The officer watched the security footage with a strict, serious expression.
His partner stepped closer to Mark, placing a hand on his utility belt.
Officer Harris: Mr. Sterling, this footage clearly shows you locking this device.
Mark: My family's legal team will explain everything to your chief.
Officer Harris: Your legal team does not override Texas state law.
Sarah: There is more than just this incident happening here today.
Sarah reached back into her legal folder and pulled out financial statements.
She handed the official bank documents directly to the second police officer.
Sarah: Mark has been illegally accessing Leo's inheritance trust fund.
Mark: That is an absolute lie!
Sarah: The trust was set up by Leo's late grandfather last year.
Evelyn: That money belongs to the entire Sterling corporate enterprise!
Sarah: The will clearly states it belongs exclusively to Leo upon turning eight.
Mark was using the boy to sign legal conservatorship papers under distress.
The officers looked at the signed documents and then back at Mark.
Officer Harris: Mr. Sterling, you need to step against the wall.
Mark: Do you have any idea who my father was?
Officer Harris: I know who you are, and you are under arrest.
Evelyn gasped loudly, placing her hand over her shaking mouth.
Evelyn: You cannot arrest my son inside his own residence!
Officer Harris: Turn around and put your hands behind your back, sir.
Mark backed away slowly, looking around the kitchen for an exit route.
