Marcus stood up behind his desk, looking taller and colder than ever before.
Marcus: Why did you want Mary out of this house so badly?
Marcus: She has been nothing but kind and helpful to both of us.
Evelyn: Because she constantly reminds you of your late wife!
Evelyn: Every time I look at her, I feel like a guest in my own home!
Marcus: That is no excuse to lie and put a child at risk!
Evelyn stepped further into the room, her voice rising in desperation.
Evelyn: I wanted us to start fresh! Just you, me, and the baby!
Marcus: But Mary was named in the family trust fund paperwork as a trustee witness.
Marcus looked at the folder sitting on the corner of his wooden desk.
The realization hit him like a heavy wave crashing against the shore.
Marcus: You knew about the life insurance policy and the estate trust, didn't you?
Evelyn's breath hitched in her throat as she stared at the brown folder.
Evelyn: I don't know what you are talking about, Marcus.
Marcus: My late wife set up a five million dollar trust fund for Lily.
Marcus: The terms state that Mary must remain as the independent guardian over the trust funds.
Marcus: If Mary was fired for cause or neglect, the guardianship would transfer to you.
Evelyn turned her face away and pressed her lips tightly together.
Marcus: You didn't just want Mary gone because of jealousy.
Marcus: You wanted control over my daughter's inheritance money.
Evelyn: That is a complete lie! I love this family!
Marcus: You lied five minutes ago on camera, Evelyn. Your word means nothing now.
Marcus grabbed his smartphone from his pocket and unlocked the screen.
Evelyn: Who are you calling right now?!
Marcus: I am calling my divorce lawyer and the police department.
Evelyn: You can't throw me out! We are legally married!
Marcus: You framed an innocent worker and filing a false report is a crime.
Evelyn lunged forward to grab his phone, but Marcus stepped easily out of reach.
He dialed his attorney's direct number and placed the call on speakerphone.
