The Bouquet That Ended a Wedding

The Grand Magnolia Ballroom in Charleston, South Carolina, shimmered beneath crystal chandeliers as guests gathered for the luxurious wedding of Ethan Brooks and Vanessa Collins. Elegant white roses lined the aisle, a live string quartet filled the room with soft music, and every detail reflected months of careful planning.

Minutes before the ceremony began, an elderly woman wearing a modest black lace dress quietly entered the ballroom. Her hands trembled as she carried a bouquet of deep red roses wrapped in white ribbon.

Her name was Margaret Brooks.

She wasn't dressed like the wealthy guests surrounding her, but the flowers she carried had been growing in her backyard for nearly a year. Every rose had been planted with love for the day her son would get married.

Margaret slowly approached Vanessa with a warm smile.

"These roses are for you."

Instead of smiling back, Vanessa frowned.

She stepped away and glared at the older woman.

"Don't you dare touch me!"

The music stopped.

Conversations disappeared.

Every guest turned toward the shocking scene.

Margaret lowered the bouquet, her eyes filling with tears.

"I only wanted to welcome you into the family."

Vanessa folded her arms.

"I don't need flowers from someone who looks like they belongs in the garden."

The bouquet slipped from Margaret's shaking hands.

Red roses scattered across the polished marble floor.
