Mark rushed across the polished marble lobby of the grand city hotel.
His heart was pounding wildly against his ribs with every step he took.
He had been searching for his two young children for three agonizing hours.
A sudden phone call from an unknown number had led him straight to this location.
He stepped through the heavy glass entrance doors and looked across the sunny parking lot.
In the far corner of the VIP lot sat a dark luxury SUV.
The hot afternoon sun was beating down directly onto the tinted glass windows.
Mark felt a cold chill run down his spine despite the stifling summer heat.
He ran as fast as his legs could carry him toward the vehicle.
As he drew closer, he heard a faint pounding sound coming from inside.
Boy: Dad! Get me out first!
Mark recognized the desperate voice of his seven year old son Leo immediately.
Mark: Hold on Leo! I am right here!
He grabbed the exterior door handle and pulled with all his physical strength.
The heavy doors were completely locked from the inside control panel.
Mark: Step back from the glass Leo!
Mark looked around frantically for something heavy to break the stubborn window lock.
He picked up a heavy metal trash receptacle from beside the grand entrance.
With one powerful swing, he smashed the corner edge of the side window frame.
The safety glass shattered into tiny pieces and fell harmlessly onto the pavement.
Mark reached his arm inside and unlocked the main driver side door frame.
He threw the heavy door open and reached into the hot back seat.
Leo was clutching a small soft blanket tightly in his trembling arms.
Wrapped inside that warm blanket was Mark's infant daughter Maya.
Mark lifted both of his precious children into his strong arms at once.
Leo: Dad, they locked us up because I said I was hungry!
Mark pulled both children tightly against his chest as tears filled his eyes.
Mark: You are safe now, my brave little boy.
He carried them away from the hot vehicle toward the cool hotel lobby.
His mind was racing with anger and complete confusion about what happened.
Who could possibly lock two helpless children inside a hot car like that?
He set Leo gently down on a leather sofa near the front entrance desk.
A kind female hotel staff member rushed over with two bottles of cold water.
Staff Member: Sir, I will watch over your children while you catch your breath.
Mark: Thank you so much, please keep them right here with you.
Mark turned back toward the main sliding doors of the glass hotel lobby.
He saw two well dressed figures walking calmly toward the revolving entrance doors.
