Richard crossed the light marble floor in rapid strides, his breath catching in his throat as he stared at the scene near the American flag.
Richard: What in the world is happening here?! Why did you throw my daughter?!
Victoria: Richard! Thank goodness you are finally looking at me!
Richard: Do not play games with me! I saw you push her over the rail!
Victoria: She slipped from my hands! I tried to catch her! You are completely insane!
Victoria's voice trembled with fake emotion as she pointed frantically while rushing down the white marble steps.
Richard: I caught her mid-air myself! You shoved her on purpose!
Victoria: You were too far away to see properly! The sun was in your eyes!
Richard: Quiet, Victoria! Let me look at my daughter right now.
Richard knelt beside the marble floor, his hands shaking as he reached out to hold the terrified little girl into his arms.
Richard: Are you okay, sweetheart? Did she hurt you?
Girl: Daddy, she pushed me on purpose!
Victoria: She is a confused child! She does not know what she is saying!
Richard: You expect me to believe my own daughter is lying about being thrown off a balcony?
Victoria: It was a tragic accident! You know how clumsy children can be around high rails!
Girl: She smiled at me right before she shoved me, Daddy!
Victoria: Shut your filthy mouth, you ungrateful brat!
Richard: Enough! Victoria, stay right where you are.
The tension inside the white foyer grew suffocating as Richard stared hard at his wife, trying to piece together the terrifying truth.
