Alejandro turned around to look at Patricia with a look of pure ice in his eyes.
He took the silver rose pendant gently from Toby's dirty fingers.
He turned the piece over and showed the small initials carved on the back surface.
Alejandro: Look at this, Patricia.
Alejandro: My initials are carved right here next to Sarah's.
Alejandro: This boy is telling the truth.
Patricia stepped back, her mouth open in shock as she glared down at Toby.
Patricia: Even if it is real, you have a reputation to protect tonight!
Patricia: We have investors waiting in the dining room!
Alejandro: The investors can wait or leave.
Alejandro: My family comes first.
Alejandro reached down and picked up Toby, carrying him toward the front doors.
He held the boy close, ignoring the dark dirt that rubbed off onto his dark suit jacket.
Lily ran behind them, grabbing her father's jacket hem as they walked outside into the sun.
Lily: I want to come too, Daddy!
Lily: Is he really my brother?
Alejandro opened the back door of his large black SUV and helped both children inside.
Alejandro: Yes, Lily.
Alejandro: It looks like he is your brother.
The driver started the engine and pulled out of the long driveway at high speed.
Toby looked out the window as the giant mansion disappeared behind the trees.
He felt a warm blanket being wrapped around his shoulders by the driver.
Alejandro sat beside him, pulling out his cell phone to make a high-priority phone call.
Alejandro: Connect me to the chief administrator at County General Hospital immediately.
Alejandro: I need the best doctor placed on Sarah Miller's case right away.
Toby looked at the tall man who was speaking with so much power and authority.
For the past three years, he and his mother had lived in small rooms with barely enough food.
