Carter carried the leather folder and the heavy legal documents back down the grand staircase into the high-ceiling hall. The guests were still gathered, watching the drama unfold with wide eyes. Two local police officers, called by one of the worried guests earlier, entered through the front glass doors of the mansion.
Officer Miller: We received a disturbance report. What is going on here?
Carter: Officer, I am Carter Vance. I need you to secure these financial documents immediately.
Evelyn: Officers, this man is causing a public disturbance in my private home! I want him removed!
Officer Miller: Ma'am, please remain calm and step back.
Carter: This woman has spent the last two years hiding my biological sister in the servant quarters to illegally control our family's multi-million dollar estate!
Carter handed the birth certificate and the original signed will amendment directly to the officer. The officer scanned the official state seals and signatures carefully, his expression turning serious as he looked over at Evelyn, who was trying to edge toward the side hallway.
Officer Miller: Ma'am, is this child registered under your legal guardianship?
Evelyn: I... I was in the process of filing the adoption papers!
Carter: She never filed a single paper! She kept Maya here like an unpaid worker while draining the company bank accounts!
Little Maya: She told me if I talked to anyone, she would send me away to a dark place...
A collective gasp rose from the crowd of guests. The wealthy neighbors who had once attended Evelyn's lavish charity galas looked at her with pure disgust. The polished mask of high-class nobility had completely fallen away, revealing the cruel actions underneath.
Officer Miller: Ma'am, do not move. We need to check your identification and verify these estate custody records right now.
Evelyn: This is a massive mistake! You don't know who my lawyers are!
Carter: Your lawyers won't be able to save you from grand larceny and fraud charges, Evelyn.
