The Final Fall

The Cruel Heiress Demanded Mercy Until Her Secret Came Out

The lead police officer stepped forward with quiet authority and purpose.

He pulled a pair of heavy steel handcuffs from his broad utility belt.

Officer: Ma'am, we have a warrant for wire fraud and grand larceny.

Evelyn backed away wildly, her red silk robe sweeping across the floor tiles.

She tried to run toward the back staircase leading to the master bedroom.

Mark stepped into her path with a solid, unyielding wall of presence.

Mark: You're done, Evelyn.

Evelyn stopped instantly, her chest heaving as tears of anger spilled down her face.

The second officer moved in quickly and placed her hands behind her back.

The cold steel cuffs clicked tightly around her soft wrists with a sharp snap.

Evelyn: Mark, please, look at me! You loved me once!

Mark: I loved the person I thought you were when we first met.

Mark: That person never truly existed at all.

The officers guided Evelyn slowly toward the open front doors of the home.

Her red silk robe dragged along the floor she had refused to let Victoria touch.

She looked back one last time as she crossed the massive threshold.

Mark turned his back on her completely and walked over to Victoria.

The heavy doors closed shut behind Evelyn with a final, echoing thud.

The silence that returned to the luxury hallway felt peaceful and light.

Victoria wiped her face with a soft white handkerchief Sarah handed to her.

Victoria: Thank you, Mr. Mark, for standing up for us today.

Mark: You never have to thank me for doing what is right, Victoria.

He gently took the heavy wooden scrubbing brush out of her tired hands.

Mark: From today on, you are retired with a full monthly salary for life.

Victoria gasped softly and pressed her hands against her warm chest.

Victoria: Sir, that is far too generous, I cannot accept that!

Mark: You raised me in this house when my own parents were always working.

Mark: You earned every single penny of peace and comfort in this world.
