The Child They Wanted Gone

The Hawthorne Estate was hosting a lavish family celebration. Rose petals decorated the marble entrance, musicians entertained the guests, and the outdoor pool shimmered beneath elegant lights.

Everything looked perfect.

Until Daniel Hawthorne heard someone scream.

He raced through the mansion, running across the carpet of scattered red rose petals toward the backyard.

Guests turned in confusion.

Without slowing down, Daniel reached the edge of the swimming pool.

Floating petals covered the water, making it impossible to see beneath the surface.

Then he noticed something.

A small white dress.

Without hesitation, he dove into the pool.

The cold water closed around him as he searched beneath the floating flowers.

At the bottom lay eight-year-old Emma.

She wasn't moving.

Daniel wrapped his arms around the frightened child and pushed toward the surface with all his strength.

The moment they emerged, Emma coughed violently as Daniel held her securely above the water.

His voice thundered across the estate.

"You've crossed the line!"

Silence fell over every guest.

Near the terrace stood the family's longtime housekeeper.

Her face was pale, but her voice remained sharp.

"She said if the child stays..."

She stopped speaking.

Across the courtyard, a woman in a red evening gown stood trembling.

A cut along her cheek was visible as tears rolled down her face.

Daniel realized everyone was hiding something far bigger than a family argument.
