The Unwelcome Guest Arrives

The Bride Kicked Me Out Before Learning I Owned Everything

The sun shone brightly through the massive glass windows of the grand hotel ballroom. Crystal chandeliers hung high above the polished oak floors, reflecting light across the elegant room. Val stood near the heavy wooden doors, adjusting the strap of her worn canvas bag. She wore simple blue jeans and a plain white tank top, completely out of place among the sea of designer tuxedos and expensive evening gowns. Her cousin Sarah was getting married today, and the venue was the most luxurious hotel in the entire city. Val had traveled three hours by bus to get here, carrying a secret that her family had kept buried for over twenty years.

Guests whispered as they walked past Val, pulling their expensive silk dresses away so they would not touch her jeans. Val ignored their cold stares and kept her eyes fixed on the front of the ballroom. There stood Sarah in a sweeping off-shoulder silk gown, beaming beside her new husband, Mark. Mark belonged to one of the wealthiest real estate families in the state, and his parents had funded the lavish wedding. Val’s own parents had passed away when she was young, leaving her in the care of relatives who treated her more like an unwanted maid than family. Today, however, Val was not here to beg for an invitation or beg for acceptance from anyone.

As Val walked down the side aisle toward the head table, Sarah’s eyes locked onto her. The smile vanished from the bride's face instantly, replaced by absolute disgust and embarrassment. Sarah grabbed her bouquet tighter and stomped across the hardwood floor toward Val before the main ceremony could even begin.

Sarah: What are you doing here, Val? Look at you! You look like a street beggar.

Val: Hello, Sarah. Congratulations on your wedding day. I just came to settle an old family matter.

Sarah: Get out! You do not belong here! My in-laws are top business leaders and you are ruining my reputation!

Val: I am not leaving yet, Sarah. I need to retrieve something that belonged to my late father.

Mark: Is there a problem here, sweetie? Who is this person causing a disturbance?

Sarah: She is my poor orphan cousin, Mark. She always tries to ruin everything good in my life!

Val: I did not come to ruin your day, Mark. I came for the leather folder your father borrowed last week.

Mark gasped slightly, looking around at the guests who were starting to gather in a circle around them. His father, a harsh man who controlled the city's commercial properties, stepped forward from the crowd with a dark leather binder tucked tightly under his arm. He looked at Val with deep contempt and tossed the binder carelessly onto the polished oak floor right at her feet.

Mark's Father: You mean this old garbage? It is just worthless paperwork from your dead dad's failed company.

The heavy leather binder slid across the floor, stopping near Sarah's silk train. Val did not hesitate or back down. She dropped to her knees right in front of the wealthy crowd, reaching out to grab the thick leather binder before anyone else could touch it. Sarah took a step back, holding her white dress up as if Val were contagious. The room went completely silent as Val gathered the heavy document into her hands and slowly stood back up to face her arrogant cousin.
