Chief Vance: Open the briefcase, Mr. Marcus. Or my men will force the latch.
Marcus let out a dry, defeated laugh, pulling a small silver key from his vest pocket and throwing it onto the desk.
Marcus: Go ahead. Look at everything. It doesn't matter anymore.
Chief Vance inserted the key and popped the brass latches open. Inside the black leather lining lay three small glass vials of concentrated chemical fluid, along with a forged life insurance policy stamped with a fake state notary seal.
Evelyn: A five-million-dollar private life insurance policy on the infant... taken out two weeks ago.
Victoria: You forged my signature on a life insurance policy for our son?!
Marcus: I needed the money, Victoria! Your father's trust fund locked me out of the main accounts until the baby turned six months old!
Evelyn: My father locked you out because he knew what kind of weak, greedy parasite you were!
Marcus: I brought ten million dollars in investor capital to Sterling Global last year!
Evelyn: You brought stolen money from shell accounts in the Bahamas, Marcus! And tomorrow, the federal auditors were going to expose your entire paper trail!
Marcus backed toward the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, his breathing heavy and ragged as he looked around the room. The two security guards blocked the main exit, while Chief Vance pulled a set of steel handcuffs from his tactical belt.
Marcus: Victoria, please! Tell them not to call the police! We can handle this quietly within the family!
Victoria: You tried to poison my baby in his nursery, Marcus[cite: 1]. You are never stepping foot in this house again.
Marcus: If I go to prison, the media will destroy the company's stock value! Think about the estate reputation!
Evelyn: The company stock will recover, Marcus. But a murderer in our family will not be tolerated.
Distant sirens began to echo down the long estate driveway outside, their red and blue lights flashing against the tall stained-glass windows of the study.
Chief Vance: Turn around and place your hands behind your back, Mr. Marcus.
Marcus: Get your hands off me! I am the vice chairman of this corporation!
Evelyn: You were the vice chairman, Marcus. The board voted to remove you thirty minutes ago during an emergency video call.
The officers stepped forward, forcing Marcus's hands behind his dark suit jacket. The sharp metallic click of the handcuffs echoed through the silent study.
Marcus thrashed against their grip, his face flushed red as he was forced toward the double doors.
Marcus: Victoria! Tell them to stop! You can't raise that boy without my family name!
Victoria: My son has the Sterling name, Marcus. And he will grow up knowing his mother protected him from a monster.
