Margaret: Security! Chief Davis, report to the grand foyer immediately!
The estate radio on the side table crackled with static, but no response came through the speaker.
Margaret: Davis! Answer this radio right now or you are fired without severance!
Ethan: Chief Davis isn't on your payroll anymore, Margaret. He resigned thirty minutes ago.
Arthur: Davis has worked for this estate for twenty years! He takes orders from me!
Ethan: Davis took orders from you until I showed him the mechanic's receipt for Thomas's brake lines.
Arthur's cane slipped an inch against the marble floor, his posture stiffening under the chandelier lights.
Arthur: That receipt was incinerated in our private furnace three years ago.
Ethan: The mechanic kept a digital copy in an encrypted cloud drive in Zurich, Arthur.
Margaret: You... you went to Switzerland behind our backs?!
Ethan: I hired private forensic auditors the day you tried to force Lily into a remote boarding school.
Arthur: That boarding school was designed to give her an elite education away from public eyes!
Ethan: That facility was a locked psychiatric clinic in Montana where children are stripped of their legal names!
Lily whimpered from the sofa, pulling Ethan's suit jacket tighter around her trembling shoulders.
Lily: Daddy... Grandpa said if I fell, I wouldn't wake up anymore.
Ethan walked back to the sofa, kneeling down on the marble to look straight into his daughter's brown eyes.
Ethan: You are awake, baby. And Daddy is never letting anyone touch a hair on your head again.
Lily: Grandpa took Mommy's locket from my neck yesterday...
Ethan: What locket, Lily?
Lily: The silver heart with Mommy's picture. He put it in his desk drawer.
Ethan stood up slowly, turning back toward Arthur with an expression of freezing, merciless resolve.
Ethan: You stole a dead woman's locket from a four-year-old child's neck?
Arthur: That locket contains a micro-SD storage card. Do not play the fool with me, Ethan.
Ethan: What storage card, Arthur?
Margaret: Sarah recorded our private conversation in the hospital room the night she gave birth!
Arthur: She recorded Margaret offering her five million dollars to sign over parental rights.
Margaret: And she recorded Arthur threatening to ruin her father's pension fund if she refused!
Ethan: Sarah tried to warn me... She hid the evidence inside Lily's locket because she knew you would search her hospital room.
Arthur: And now the locket is inside my biometric floor safe in the study. You will never see it again.
Ethan: I don't need to see it, Arthur. The contents were automatically backed up to my personal phone the second Lily walked into the foyer this morning.
Arthur's breath hitched in his throat, his face draining of color under the bright foyer chandeliers.
Arthur: Her locket had a wireless proximity transmitter?!
Ethan: I designed maritime tracking beacons for our freight fleet for ten years, Father. You think I couldn't build a Bluetooth backup receiver into my daughter's jewelry?
Margaret grabbed Arthur's arm, her fingernails digging frantically through his grey wool suit sleeve.
Margaret: Arthur! Do something! He has the hospital recording!
Arthur: Delete that file from your phone right now, Ethan! I am ordering you as the head of this family!
Ethan: You are not the head of anything anymore, Arthur.
Arthur: If that audio file leaks to the press, the Sterling stock will collapse sixty percent by market open!
Ethan: Let it burn to the ground. I will not protect a criminal empire built on the blood of my brother and the tears of my daughter.
A sudden chorus of blaring police sirens echoed down the long private driveway outside the front gates.
Flashing red and blue emergency lights swept across the grand foyer windows, casting crimson streaks over the massive American flag hanging by the fireplace.
Arthur's cane clattered loudly onto the marble floor as his hand went completely limp.
Arthur: Police...? You called the authorities to your own ancestral home?!
Ethan: I didn't call the police, Arthur. The federal task force has had a warrant for your arrest since seven o'clock this morning.
