Victoria: What... what did you just say, Arthur?
Arthur: You heard me perfectly, Victoria. Or should I call you Rachel Cole?
Victoria took a frantic step back, her high heels catching on the fringe of the Persian rug under the dining table.
Victoria: That name... where did you hear that name?!
Arthur: Davis, bring my leather briefcase forward.
Chief Security Guard Davis stepped forward, opening the brass locks on Arthur's dark leather case.
Arthur pulled out a thick manila folder stamped with the seal of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Arthur: Two days ago, our corporate board ordered a mandatory background audit for the new trust signatories.
Victoria: That was supposed to be a routine credit check!
Arthur: The federal agents ran your dental records against the real Victoria Vance, who died in a clinical facility in Zurich four years ago.
Clara gasped, pulling little Toby tighter against her chest as she stared in disbelief.
Clara: Arthur... she isn't even the real heiress?!
Arthur: She was the private nurse who took care of the real Victoria during her final illness.
Rachel: Shut up! Shut your mouth, Arthur!
Arthur: You stole her passport, assumed her legal identity, and used her family credentials to infiltrate high society in Chicago.
Rachel: I worked hard for that identity! I deserved that wealth more than that sickly little girl ever did!
Arthur: You entered my home under a fake name, targeted my grief after Thomas died, and tried to murder his son for an inheritance!
Rachel: I didn't try to murder him! A slap across the face is not murder!
Clara: You left him in a locked car on Tuesday afternoon, Rachel! The interior temperature was ninety degrees!
Rachel: The air conditioning was running! I only went inside the boutique for five minutes!
Clara: The engine was completely off! The valet had to smash the rear window with a tire iron to pull Toby out!
Arthur’s face darkened with pure rage, his fists shaking at his sides as he stepped closer to the trembling woman.
Arthur: You endangered my grandson twice in one week, Rachel.
Rachel: You have no proof of anything! Valets lie, maids lie! You cannot prove intent in a court of law!
Arthur: We don't need the valet's testimony, Rachel. Look up at the wall beneath the American flag.
Rachel slowly tilted her head back, her eyes landing on a small bronze decorative plate mounted beneath the framed flag.
Inside the brass filigree, a tiny red surveillance lens blinked with a steady, pulsing glow.
Rachel: That... that is a decorative antique sconce! The interior designer installed that last summer!
Arthur: The interior designer works for my private corporate security team, Rachel.
Rachel: No... no! The dining room was supposed to be private!
Arthur: That camera recorded you walking up to the high chair, screaming profanities at a two-year-old child, and striking him with your fist.
Rachel’s knees began to buckle, her green sequined dress shivering as panic took full control of her body.
Rachel: Arthur, please... let me explain! I was having a severe panic attack!
Arthur: You will explain your panic attacks to the federal prosecutor, Rachel.
A sudden wail of police sirens echoed down the long estate driveway, growing louder and sharper by the second.
Flashing red and blue lights swept through the dining hall windows, painting the white marble floor in sharp, crimson emergency beams.
