Daniel immediately noticed the young maid kneeling on the floor.
Then he saw the blood running from her nose.
His expression darkened.
"Mia..."
"What happened?"
Before she could answer, Vanessa casually walked over carrying a glass of fresh red wine.
She smiled confidently.
"Welcome home."
"I'm just teaching your new maid her place."
Daniel looked from Vanessa...
...to the frightened young woman still holding a bloodstained cloth.
He knelt beside Mia.
"Did someone hurt you?"
Mia hesitated.
She desperately wanted to avoid making the situation worse.
"It was an accident."
Vanessa laughed.
"She's clumsy."
"If she can't even carry a glass, she shouldn't be working here."
Daniel slowly stood.
His eyes never left Vanessa.
For several seconds, the foyer remained completely silent.
Even the household staff stopped moving.
Everyone sensed something had changed.
Vanessa mistook his silence for agreement.
She smiled proudly.
"I handled the problem."
Daniel reached into his coat pocket.
Pulled out his phone.
And made one call.
